Bread, fruit and bars

These three are the most BASHED foods on this board............I, for one, don't look at bread, but feel everything else is fair game.......for example, MrX bashed my bro for his 1/2 grapefruit that he eats in the am w/ oats and eggs, yet he gets paper thin...........anyone else have theories?

Personally, I think bread is alright in moderation. I use lite bread, no more than 3 slices a day. That's barely 100 kcals. As for fruit, well, I'm a fruit junkie. I have at least 2 apples a day, and then usually some grapes or honeydew melon or something. Fruit is VERY good for you.

Bars, on the other hand... They usually have a lot of fat, calories, or if they don't, they taste like straight ass. Plus, more often than not, they have a lot of saturated fat (especially low carb bars).

I believe, however, it depends on your goals on whether or not you want to use these foods. Cutting diets are obviously way different than bulking diets. It all leads back to the energy balance equation. You can use any of these foods, but if you expect to get anywhere, you still must abide by the energy balance.

That doesn't mean, however, that there aren't better ways to do things. Just keep an open mind.

Heres what I have so to say about these 3:

1) Fruit -- sure its full of nutrients and has got some fibre, but the carbs are just too sugary. If im gonna have fruit, it'll be in my PWO drink.

2) Bread -- wholewheat and low carb are 100% a-okay in my books. When getting lean though I ease up on these and rely morese on oats and green veggies.

3) Bars -- first problem, my appetite... a whole food meal fills me up much more. Second, to be honest, I don't know how much I can trust the labels as too whats in them.

I used to be a big milk drinker when I was a kid, but now I am a strong advocate of solid foods. I refuse to consume liquid calories with the exception of protein shakes and a workout drink.

You forgot milk on that list.

DAMN BRO! Howd I forget that one????? Milk and dairy too.........for me, I MAYBE have 1/2 cup of low fat cc daily...never touched milk before they came out with carb coutdown........best shit on the market, hands down.........ideal protein, no sugar or carbs, and the skim is obviously fat free.....what's you take on fruit SC? Don't think we ever got into that.....my limit is 1/2 grapefruit in the am, thinking about the banana PW, but you shot me down, probably a good thing...........

Nah, the banana pwo is not a "bad" thing at all really, but it won't help your recovery any better that was my only point. I like to utilize either grapefruit and coffee before working out, or a green apple about 30 mins before a workout.

My goals are different than the majority of people on this board. I aim for health, strength and overall fitness. I don't compete or plan to......and I don't have a 15% bf goal or anything like that...

I have eliminated most fruit from my diet due to the sugars and carbs. Never was much of a fruit eater anyway -- I'd buy it & it'd go bad before I ate it.....I will occaisionally throw a couple frozen strawberries in my PWO shake...

I do have 1/2 cup skim milk most mornings with high fiber/protein cereal or oatmeal....

I don't eat bread much nor do I really miss it...but if I want a sandwich I'll have one (or a wrap)

Bars.....I don't eat a lot of the bars cuz I don't want to spend the $$$ on them but If I crave a candy bar I'll have a Luna bar or Detour, cuz at least they have some amount of protein in addition to the crap....

Just chiming in.....:)
