it was definitely a clean hit by NHL rules.. that's why he didnt get suspended.
but it's bullshit. savard was in cooke's view the entire time, he didn't have to smash his head like that. unless you are in a fight, you shouldn't be hitting guys in the head. then again this the sport that had it's last helmetless player still playing into the 90s
The game is so fast thought that 1/4 to a full second can make a difference between the guy getting it on the chin or taking it on the shoulder.
Also when a taller guy is putting his shoulder into some who is shorter or leaned over a bit, the shoulder is going to go to the head.
Back in the 90's there was more enforcers per team. There would be less cheap shit if the guy that did it knew he would have to answer to some guy whose job is to fight and hit.
Once you have a guy lined its real hard to disengage if he drops his head down a bit or goes to look behind him. I know I wouldn't let up and I know people haven't let up on me.
