I love that quote from American Psycho.
Hehe, I feel that final quote really explains the whole movie in a way. I found the script for the movie online, I enjoy reading it more so that I do watching the movie.

My favorite quote used to be
" I cant believe Bryce prefers VanPattens card to mine "

That is a good one, but the most memorable is where his GF asks him why he goes to work everyday when his father owns the company and he says:

"Because I want to fit in!!"

This is so deep and shallow at the same time.

BTW, I'm not an atheist or agnostic. I don't believe or have faith in God, because I KNOW that God exists! The thing is, mankind has done two things with God:

1) Used the name and authority of God to control the minds and lives of gullible, uneducated submissive people.

AND

2) Have made God to have "human-like" qualities, so that mankind may use their minds to better understand Him. Guess what, God isn't a him or her, because IT'S NOT A HUMAN BEING! All that crap about God "making man in his image" is nonsense. There is no old, Charlton Heston-looking motherfucker with a gray beard and a thunderbolt hiding above the heavenly clouds. God is the name that man has given for the all-knowing, all-encompassing ENTITY that surrounds us. Human minds cannot truly understand the ENTITY that we know of as God. Remember, as it says in the Bible, Adam and Eve (meaning mankind) were at their happiest and at most peace when THEY DIDN'T EAT FROM THE TREE OF KNOWLEDGE. Only after the "serpent" made them eat the "forbidden fruit", did Adam and Eve gain knowledge. And as God said to them (or so the Bible says), their lives would be more painful for having that knowledge. SO WHAT DOES THIS TEACH US----LEAVE THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN ALONE TO DO HIS BUSINESS!!! Let me tell you, bros, the day that God needs mankind to "do his work" and "do his bidding" is the day that all of mankind is doomed.

What is it, that all of these Christians who talk about doing "God's work" and "God's bidding", think they are doing? If you truly believe in God, and recognize that God is all-knowing and all-powerful, then why do Christians always believe they have to "do his work". God doesn't need mankind to do his work. He did just damn fine on his own for billions of years, and took care of all mankind while we were still swinging from branches in fuckin' Africa. The only "Christians" who think they need to do God's work are the televangelist-scumbags like Jimmy Swaggert and Co. who want to steal your money, "all for the greater glory of God". BULLSHIT!!! Keep your money, spend Sundays with your families and not with a bunch of ignorant, submissive morons in a crowded building, and live your life the best you can. In the end, it will be God, and not a bunch of hypocritical priests, rabbis and sheiks who will decide your fate. And remember, there is NO HELL!!! That was one of the many "creations" that the 90 year old St. Thomas came up with after his dream of the Apocalpyse, which he said was inspired by God. Yeah, Johnny Boy, go smoke some more pot. Call me when you have a spare pipe on hand.
PLEASE don't respond to this question, but if 'God' doesn't have human like qualities such as consciousness, doesn't 'God' lack meaning? I mean, one could say that the physical universe devoid of any 'God' may be omnipotent. That is when 'God' becomes a useless semantic, clinging to the Abrahamic idea of monotheism and equating all "religion" and "unknown" to 'God'.

I was busy taking a shit; now what were you saying?

Mankind wants to believe that they are the highest form of being in the Universe; to reinforce this, they have conditioned themselves to believe that God made man "in his image". That's where all this nonsense comes about where God is referred to as Him, and all these stupid liberal woman say,"God isn't a man, she's a woman". And you have people, especially Jews, depicting God as a man talking to Moses, as the burning bush,on top of the Mountain, and also in how mankind "prays" to God. I've got news for all of the so-called religious people who say them belive in God.

1) I don't need to believe, or have faith, in God. I KNOW he exists.
2) God doesn't need me to "do his work", nor "do his bidding", etc, because to state that God needs the help of mere mortal men is to bear false witness against the supreme power of God.
3)People who pray to God are wasting their time. First off, do people actually think that God won't know what they are thinking unless they tell God through prayer? GOD KNOWS EVERYTHING WHETHER YOU WISH TO PRAY TO HIM OR NOT! Prayer is a waste of time! Prayer is nothing more than a pyschologically-pleasing tool that helps mankind to feel at ease through a sort of quasi-meditation, at which when the prayer/meditation is completed, the person who prayed/meditated feels better about himself.

I totally agree with your third point.

Now, isn't your idea of god nothing more than the known and/or unknown forces of the universe? Or are these forces somehow "special"? (i.e. conscious, the only way we know of seemingly affecting out otherwise consistent universe)

Judging by your beliefs, maybe you shouldn't use the term 'God'. I know that many people have changed the definition of this word, but it is usually equated to the Abrahamic idea of 'God'.

It is not that the Bible threatens people so much. It is a case that after having grown up forced to attend Church every Sunday as a child, etc. etc. etc. and not buying into it then either. And then having people pushing it at you constantly, whether they are trying to lay witness to you on a plane, a bus, etc. or invading your private property and leaving their propoganda-soon to turn landfill material-on your door, or on your car, or their prosyletizing to you in the workplace, at schools, in malls or other public settings, seeing ads on TV, in print, etc. that maybe people just get a LITTLE sick and tired of having it pushed at them all the fricking time and start to SNAP! You can "just say NO" but once you have said it hundreds or thousands of times, IT DOES GET A BIT OLD! And some of us HAVE actually read it MANY times so it is not from lack of reading it and studying it that we disagree with it or do not believe in it or do not believe in how fundimentalists, in particular, interpret it--i.e. Literal Word.

I respect that people are entitled to their religious and other beliefs regardless of what I think of their beliefs. I do NOT believe that people are necessarily ENTITLED to ACT OUT on their beliefs, however. Acccordingly, until confronted in some manner, I respect their space. Unfortunately, Bible toting prosyletizers do NOT respect the space or beliefs of others and are VERY in your face from my experience. So they tend to get an "equally vehement" response returned to them. And then they are surprised that somehow you are "threatened"--go figure!

I lived in the "Bible Belt" for quite a lot of years and quite happily escaped from it. Truth is that I personally have a life time saturation from it and know of many others that feel the same way. And frankly, I don't care for all the hate, devisiveness and bigotry that seems to go along with it either. Or for all the atrocities throughout history, including the present, that have been "justified" by it. So my word to those folks (Bible thumpers) is "give it a rest"--if we are interested or have a change of heart, we EASILY can find you.
