Black Tongue

Ok, this is the second time this has happened to me. The first time it happened was a couple 3-4 months ago.

I wake up in the morning with my tongue is completey black, and I spit nasty black tar like shit out forever and it tastes really bad. It takes about 7-10 minutes just to scrub it out with my toothbrush.

The night before: Last time and this time where pretty much the same. I go to sleep with a stomach ache. The only thing I take for it is the pepto tablets. Do you think that I am allergic to the tablets or is something else wrong with me?

Need help guys, I am not too worried about it, since I feel fine. But, I would like to know what is going on when I am sleeping.

Extras: No, I dont smoke. I used to, but quit awhile ago. So I am pretty sure that wouldnt have anything to do with it.

Chances are it's the dissolved pepto tab creeping back up your esophagus as you sleep. It you're getting occasional stomach aches, you may have mild GERD (gastro-esophageal reflux disease), and taking the pepto will help, but may be the cause of your "black tounge".

Try this: Take a pepto tab, and let it dissolve in your mouth, and keep it there for as long as possible. Your tounge may not be as dark as when you wake up, but I'll bet it looks a few shades similar.

Discontinue taking the Pepto Bismol and read the entire usage instructions and the associated side effects as a black tongue is a possible side effect when using any bismuth-containing product ... which is what Pepto Bismol contains. It is not a sign of an allergy.

I am retarded and didnt read the back of the box. It says that tongue and stool discolorment are normal and harmless.

If you're going to sleep with a stomach ache, then chances are you have GERD. You should see a physician about long-term management (H2 blockers or PPI's) since Pepto-Bismol wasn't designed to prevent reoccurrences.
