Big time Overtraining ?

Ok...hypothetical ?....let
s say you've been severely overtraining for the past year+.....got into realy good shape, but more athletic than bodybuilding type.....skinny....yet strong...at 6-7% bf....all this by eating very low carbs and fat...high protein....lift 6x week and cardio the same......NOW, let's say you've wisened up and are going to increase calories, carbs and fat....reduce cardio...and train on a 2 day on 1 day off split routine with plenty of rest....PLUS, you're gonna jump on some nice gear.....My ? is, would you need to rest for a few days before starting or can you just change overnight....will you be able to put on solid mass, or is your body so used to doing high colume and high levels of cardio that you'll just get fat becuase your body will feel like it's getting a break (from all the overtraing!) ........thanks for the replies in advance.

naw, as long as you train consistantly, are progressing... then I think it's fine. You will probably actually have a strong anabolic effect after a long period of dieting hard. If you feel you need a few days ff to change lifestyle a bit, then take them, It will probably help you get everything planned out for your muscle adding phase.

well, personally I'd would take a couple of weeks off before going on the mass training cos if you're overtraining like you said then your body needs to really rest before overloading it with more stress.

Just dont overtrain if your looking for size cos you wont get them as muscles need adequate recuperation time.

peace

I've done my research...thanks bro.....prob. a mix of DC and straight sets...love the DC stretching......and the rest/pause effect...anyone ever mix programs?

By all means find what works best for YOU, but when going with a program like DC you really have to follow it 110%. Don't mix it up with anything. Try it as it's supposed to be (the work out, stretch, nutrition) etc. It's a good overall program. No need to add anything, or take anything away.

As for taking time off, I think you should take a week off. Everyone needs a break, and now would be a perfect time for you.

I've tried it bra - DC neglects some body parts IMO......and I'm not the only one....however, I do like some of the concepts and others I can go without......it's ok man, to each his own.....no bodybuilding law......just curious to see if anyone else mixes and matches.....for instance...I might start off with Military Press and hit the rest/pause/stretch.....then kick in some side lats and uprights for 8-10.........then go to str8 bar rows and hit the rest/pause/stretch.....and toss in some t-bar rows, dbell rows and lat pulls.......all good........thanks for the reply though brother

Personally, I love the 5x5 routine that needsize put together, its awesome and I've put most of my mass using that program alone.

Just be sure you are starting with a plan that works for you. For example, I was 1/4 way through my cycle before I realized the my bicep training was not doing anything, ie. growth. I changed up a couple of exersizes and got more growth in 6 weeks than I ever had in my whole time training. Also squats don't do shit for my right leg because I have a fused ankle, My left picks up all of the slack. Had to go with old style Hack squats, but I found them after my cycle was over....
Bottom line, make sure your routine is solid before starting.

Trial and error bro - waht it's all about.....more worried about my diet than training, as I feel my training is right on..........it's staying OUT of the gym to which I have a really hard time.....

let me guess. Type-A personality? :D

my experience has been that a brief layoff will do wonders for muscle-building results. not too long, and don't start the excess calories till you start training again.

I think doing a transition like that would immediately put your body into an Anabolic state... with or without AAS on-board.

take some time off, a week or two off here and there can be one of the best things for you body. Plus changing your work out routine every so often is crucial as well. I think what your doing sounds like a great idea, stick with that for a while then change up your approach in another few months

You can also overtrain your CNS if going with 90% + weight. Check out some Westside Barbell articles.
