Yep, that's what I meant.....plus on a hugely commercial board like this, there is always at least 1 idiot who says he is "fat" or who feels they could bench 1,000 lbs in a shirt or with juice, you know.....the typical stuff, lol.

Thing is.....

There will always be those who prefer raw lifts(Im one of them).....

HOWEVER

.....the fact that he uses a shirt(and gear Im assuming) has NOTHING to do with the lift being "illegit" as I have heard so many times.

He is simply using what the rules of the federation allow.

Same with his lockout......

Is it the cleanest in the world??

Probaly not - (certainly no worse than T.Arcidi when he was delaing with his elbow issues) - but again, as long as he is white lighted - it doesnt matter.

It is a beast of a lift - period.

It's like saying that Coleman or Cutler should not "win" b/c they arent natural.

Shadow.....for what it's worth, we share the same opinions on raw lifts. my big issue is with people who see a thread like this and think it is a platform for them to voice their opinion on that. People mention bodyfat, well for what it's worth I would never personally want to weigh over a certain amount, I will also never have world-class strength, I am not saying I'd have world class strength at a much higher bodyweight, but what I mean is, if everybody felt like that, the best lifts in the world would be a little less impressive. That's why there's vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream, something for everybody.

As far as conditioning, he's better conditioned that your average sedintary American who weighs as much as he does.....but come on, how conditioned can he be? But, who cares?? Getting 'conditioned' would be counter-productive to what he does. The guy who won the NY Marathon can't squat very much weight, but who cares?? If he trained his squat it would be counter-productive to what he does.

My issue is when someone starts a thread like this....just giving the news.....and some fool takes it upon themselves to compare apples to oranges (yeah, I cut my cals and am hungry, hence all the references to food items, lol). Things like "Ronnie Coleman could lift that if he ate twinkies and taco bell"...."He can't do that raw"....that type of crap.....it's like somebody posting that the world record in the mile run was broken and a bodybuilder saying "who gives a shit, I'd rather have big muscles than be a toothpick running a sub-4 minte mile".....just basically there is always somebody who says something where the only logical response would be "what the fuck are you talking about, bro?".

Is this what you were looking for T?
I am no doubt impressed with powerful lifts - regardless of if they are raw or not. I have high amount of respect for all powerlifters & strongmen - always have. Ive never even been a fan of bodybuilding , so perhaps you took my questions the wrong way? They were sincere questions because I am curious, not because I am being in any way critical.

i like the guys who curl 20 lb DBs every other day (assuming they make it to the gym), weigh one and a half bucks and shake their heads with skepticism - he only moves the bar a few inches, but his physique looks like shit, etc, etc...

whatever one's opinions on raw vs shirted lifts, fact is most of the guys dissing these lifts couldn't bench 225 for reps, also guys like gene are very strong raw too.

As someone unfamiliar with PL but increasingly interested in it due to this forum, can someone take a moment to explain how any kind of shirt can have a dramatic impact on a lift? I've seen this mentioned in threads but haven't really seen anyone explain "how" from a technical standpoint.

Just curious.

I personally do not like shirted lifts and never will go near one. That said I realize that in order to be competitive, these fellas have to use shirts. The playing field just isn't level if you don't use one (unforunately). On the flip side of the coin are those who contend that moving more weight is better no matter what the expense, bench shirts included.
