Nice but did you ever try ..

100% Whey Protein Isolate by NxCare

45g Protein, 1 gram of carbs, 190 Cals, per 50g scoop

2.5lb Tub for $43.99 Canadian

Also this company is in Guelph, ON, Canada

I would vote for real food over a shake any day. Lean meat is the most anabolic food you can eat. Dairy is a common and sometime serious allergy. The quality of whey varies greatly depending on the filtering technology used to create the product and the percentage of whey protein in the product. Concentrates are not high quality.
Also leam meat will have to be broken down so lean meat should a good slow digester... I vote lean meat over whey anyday

As far as amino acid profile is cooncerned. dairy and egg are the best protein sources. Meat falls behind them and plant proteins bring up the rear. Whey is the most over rated protein source IMO and I use a microfiltered cold processed milk isolate for general use. Whey in a fasted state just seems to be canabalized by teh human body for glucose (Boire). Milk isoalte also has a more balanced amino acid profile and contains high levels of naturally occuring glutamine, whey has very low levels of glutamine.

I will agree in terms of amino acid profile. The problem is that most proteins are concentrates where you have no idea the amount of quality protein in the product. Having said this the amino acid profile doesn't have the effect it should when as little as 30% of the product is quality protein...

Note that milk is 80% caesin and 20% whey. This doesn't seem to be a good choice for pre or post workout as both situations would require a fast absorbing macronutrient

1. for glutamine use I would use glutamine peptides such as anafits EnerG. I wouldn't depend on my powder to supply quality glutamine. L-glutamine does not absorb well in the stomach as the HCL in your stomach will denature it, and then what does pass through the stomach is absorbed into the tissues of the small intestines. Probably not where you want it

2. If you swallow a protein shake in a fasted state , you should probably mix it with some 100% and I mean 100% fruit juice so what you describe does not happen. My new habit is to drink coconut milk before the protein as most (80%) of saturated fats are burned as energy

BEEF IT UP!
shakes are sooo overated...
fast acting protein = tuna, salmon etc..
long lasting protein = bloody red beef (the less you cook it the less the protein is damaged)
cant beat real food, its what the body is made to utilize

Does anyone have any information on lab testing of specific brands and which are best in terms of quality?

Has there been anything further on this ?

Quality, and type of protein really don't have much to do with each other. Much of it is based on production procedures, and what you are looking for in a protien. Ion exchange Whey is generally the most bio-available, but quality will vary from one factory to another. Casien, while not as bio-available, gives more sustained amino releases into the blood (reason why people say to use whey with milk, quick/prolonged release).

Blends of high quality protiens are better than any one.

Whey also is liked due to its high glutamine content.

It's pointless to answer the poll IMO because it makes no sense. Its like saying what is the best food?

Some cheap protein is cheap do to low quality (ie not having advertised content, low bio-availbility...ect). Others are cheap because they are bought in bulk, or sold in bulk..ect. IMO pay a little more and buy something that is tested by an independent lab, or is known to be high quality. And I don't mean that hyped up muscletech shit....

Just started using MBI's Synergy 3. IT's a multiblend protein that is Whey isolate, Egg isolate, and micellar casein. 56 grams protein, 4 carbs and 5.5lbs. I'm a firm believer in multiblend proteins and this one is the best one I've found to date. The vanilla tastes like vanilla cake batter.

What is the best quality protein? Some brands will sell you protein powders with 60gms of protein each serving for very cheap, is that because the quality of the protein is cheap?
