What is the best quality protein? Some brands will sell you protein powders with 60gms of protein each serving for very cheap, is that because the quality of the protein is cheap?

Quality, and type of protein really don't have much to do with each other. Much of it is based on production procedures, and what you are looking for in a protien. Ion exchange Whey is generally the most bio-available, but quality will vary from one factory to another. Casien, while not as bio-available, gives more sustained amino releases into the blood (reason why people say to use whey with milk, quick/prolonged release).

Blends of high quality protiens are better than any one.

Whey also is liked due to its high glutamine content.

It's pointless to answer the poll IMO because it makes no sense. Its like saying what is the best food?

Some cheap protein is cheap do to low quality (ie not having advertised content, low bio-availbility...ect). Others are cheap because they are bought in bulk, or sold in bulk..ect. IMO pay a little more and buy something that is tested by an independent lab, or is known to be high quality. And I don't mean that hyped up muscletech shit....

Optimum

Optimum Nutrition

22grams protein/serving

Good quality protein and bang for you buck
Anyways just my two cents

I thought we were supposed to have a balance of all protein types? Or can we just dedicate ourselves to whey and meats?

Well said. One kind of protein is not necessarily better than another. You need a range of various protein sources throughout the day for best results. Whey has the best bio-availability and is quick & easy to digest, which I think many people use as a post-workout drink.

If you know you're not gonna be eating for a while (say you're going into a long meeting, whatever), then casien would be a good choice, or an MRP that blends casien, whey, egg so you'll have a prolonged release. Throughout the day, I eat lean meats as my main protein source, but in the morning, right after workout, and possibly again in the evening, I take whey.

Your question is too general.

Isopure or one of those AST-SS brands. It is a little bit more expensive, but completely lactose and fat free, and doesn't taste that bad.

i dont think i believe in the "blend is best" idea. it sounds to me like mixing whey with soy and casein is like mixing fillet mignon with ny strip and hamburger.
Love the nick bro. :D

Anyway, I don't think the idea is to always take in a mixture of protein types. I certainly don't. The idea is more to guage your choice of protein on what your need is at the time. Do you want quick digestion (whey) or something that's gonna take longer and release more slowly (milk protein), etc. I don't think one type of protein is right for everyone 100% of the time. I eat lean meats for my regular meals, take a couple of whey shakes/day, and toss in an MRP that combines whey, casien, & egg proteins.

Look at what you're going to be doing, what type of digestion would be best suited, and choose a protein accordingly.
