Being BIG or being skilled???

The skilled guy will beat an untrainned bodybuilder....

Before I started grappling I was pretty strong in terms of weightlifting....

Rolled around with some guys who were much lighter and got schooled....

Now that I have a few years under my belt, the power is an asset... It can be the difference when you have 2 guys around the same skill level.

yes the only reason I give my friends problems on the ground is because of my strength, and mass
oh and cus they taught me guard

Hey bros, I have lifted weight most of my life so that I could be big and strong and nobody could mess with me. Do you guys feel (as martial artists) that you could even beat up someone who has 25 pounds of muscle on you (street fight). And how long do you have to train to be able to do something like this? I was considering takeing boxing or one of the arts up so I have a little more then just muscle. But not sure because how many people out there are trained to be able to beat some big strong ass dudes.

Tommboy you and many of you that responded are all correct in several ways, a smaller middle weight well conditioned and trained is certainly formidableagainst a larger untrained unskilled fighter, but maybe of all traits you might like for is he or she a fighter ? some peopleare just naturally good instinctive fighters and no matter what your body type if you couple that with training and skills these are the most dangerous in my opinon, but don't be fooled there are some belly draggers out there that can seriously cause some damage. Sometimes it's like they say in racing, " there is no replacement for displacement.............I weigh about 350, I am not currently in great shape, I practice Judo with men half my age commonly, I know if they screw up and I don't waste my energy they can rarely do much with me, of course this isn't street fighting. Lots of encounters on the street end real quick, less then 30 seconds, lots of people don't fight well after they get smashed in the face by a hand or foot and see a lot of there own blood forthe first time, others just begin to get started after a good wack to the head , hehe, know your limitations, never under estimate, hit first hit hard , be able to get up off the floor and fight, and get out quick

your only as strong as your weaknesses, and we have no protection over our knees, windpipe and eyes. these are vulnerable attack points. i go for the knees as the cap gets displaced at relatively low impact pressures, damaging tendons requires a bit more, but as a fit adult male, its easy.

so the kill is in the skill, muscle and strength can help with impact damage but skill and know how has the advantage.
