Bartholin's Glands

Tatyana

Elite Mentor
Ok, this is a bit dead embarassing, but I thought I would share it with some of you ladies as it is such an odd thing, and also, it may spare some of you the excruciating pain if you catch it early enough.

Also I have been a bit quiet because I have been suffering from an infected Bartholin's gland, and I may be a bit quiet for a few days.

I also know Kini mom is a bit concerned

These are tiny glands that are in your labia on either side of your vagina, and they can become blocked and/or infected.

It happens to about 2% of women (joy I am one of them), and you can have them more than once.

It is more likely to happen if you haven't had children or not had many children.

I am quite positive now I have had it happen three times, the first time it wasn't that bad and resolved itself, I just thought it was an ingrown hair or something because I was riding my bike so much.

The last time I had this was when I was on crutches, and I was in Canada, and it was HIDEOUS as I didn't see a doctor soon enough.

You can get flu like symptoms and A LOT of swelling, and it is incredibly painful.

I think all the bike riding brings it on for me for some reason, I may have to get those gay bike shorts.

Anyway, I will have to go in for some minor surgery, not sure when, but I will keep you posted.

Oh yah, I am also telling you all this as when I had to go home sick yesterday from work, I found out that there were about 4 other women in my lab who were suffering from some sort of gynae issue.

It was really nice for all of us to be able to share about the things that we were going through. For one young woman, her condition may be quite serious.

It really isn't anything that we want to talk about much, well, at least, I don't.

Hi, I used to be a certified spin instructor. Riding a bike without some protection is really bad for your hooha. If you don't like bike shorts, invest in a gel seat at least. That will cushion things a bit.

Never, had that gland problem, but i used to get major UTI's. Hope thing helps!

I did get a better seat, but I think I need a gel cushion.

I have never had problems until I started BBing, but I have been a lower body fat since then.

I think that is bodyfat everywhere :)

I know this will sound silly but THANK YOU for sharing this with the rest of us!!

I've not had these types of issues, but I am sure that many others have and have chosen to *just keep it to themselves* for fear of embarrassment.

Hell, if it were your freaking toe would you be embarrassed?!?!

Thanks Tatyana and all the other women who have opened up and shared these *intimate details* so that many others (or even ONE other) won't feel like they are the only ones on the planet who this happened to, or who thought this way.

I hope you are feeling better soon!!! :)

You wouldn't think that one little gland could make you feel so dreadful, but it has really put me on my bottom for a good two days now, and I felt yucky for two days before that.

I do think it is worse as the one I had in Canada ruptured.

Just to let you know how bad the pain was (and I have a VERY HIGH paint threshold), standing, sitting, laying down hurt, and I was crawling and sobbing to get around on the last day I had it.

I still have a fever, and this is two days of anti-biotics now.

I think the anti-biotics are also making me feel a bit yucky as they are quite a massive dose (don't you just love reading the package inserts for the possible sides).

I am eating a lot more fruit and a much wider range of foods when I can be bothered to steam veggies.

I did manage to roast some beef and a turkey breast joint yesterday afternoon.

You know Tatyana... my Old Grump said that he had a girfriend who had issues so bad that she had to have the glands drained.

I sat there as he described it and went, "HUH?!" :worried:

Imagine, you are a female who has a tremendous amount of knowledge about ALL human bodies, not *just* female anatomy by proxy.... but my husband has all this knowledge because he actually *gave a shit*....

He can't post up here because he is a dude.

As you know, we are all working on having that issue resolved ASAP here on elite.

We can't all thank you enough for sharing your experiences with us.... otherwise, how would we know?

We both hope that you will be up, around and on top of the world soon!

We are all of us on the same side here. :)

wow. i'm sorry tat... for the pain and the worry and everything, but thank you for having the courage to share it.

HI there!

I had a cyst type thing up there that was sooo painful - sorry if TMI but it was like a blister - my reg GYN kept lancing it and it kept coming back.

I finally went to a specialist and she said it was related to a bartholin's gland and this cyst/thing was blocking it from the surface. I ended up having the gland removed. The worst part was the lidocaine shots - was swollen for a few days and then healed really fast. There is a 10% chance of it coming back - but this was 8 months ago and I have been pain free ever since! So if you have it done don't worry, it is not that bad!! :)
