Bartending school...

Crazier

New member
I've never been a bartender, or worked in a restaurant for that matter. But, in about a half an hour I'm going to go check out the American Bartending school.

They're running a special right now, so it would cost me $450.00.

Without experience... is it worth it? They say they land people a job 92% of the time when you complete their course. Is this true?

If you've taken the class... please give me a little insight.

Thanks!

DON'T DO IT!!!!

trust me.. you do not need to go to school for that. I managed restuants and worked at a bunch.

It is actually harder to get a job if you go to the bartending school

Just get a book and practice at home. Then you can always lie on your application that you have experience. I doubt they check. Even if they do, say the place you worked at is out of business now so they can't check anyway. A buddy of mine in College did this to get a job as a waiter.

Ah dammit. You know bro... it seems that everyone that isn't at the bartending school says the same damn thing. That blows.

I'll just leave my checkbook and credit card at home when I go so I don't get caught up in the moment and sign up. That way, I can call a few restaurants/bars today to see what they have to say about it.

Or... should I just no show? ;)

For a guy it can help. I mean many bars will ask you for either experience or a bartending certificate. With girls its pretty different, as long as she's cute it doesnt matter the experience she has, the manager will most likely match her with a guy with lotta experience. I would take the class, but 450$ is a bit expensive.

Yeah its not worth it and most of the time the job they get you is something crappy where it would take you weeks just to make back your investment. The good route to go is become a server and tell the mgmt u want to learn and they'll let you hang out at ther bar and learn at your own pace. Then when a position opens up its all good.

I am not sure... I will give you some references if you need them for a job.. you got my e-mail. I got the hook up in the resturant world here in Atlanta.

Bartenders told me it was a waste of time. Most of the guys you'll see bartending at clubs and stuff started off at like a small bar/fridays type of place and were trained there. The hardest part is locating the liquor for the drinks. Every bar keeps it in a different spot.

Well, I just got back from the school. That guy I went up there to meet, he was as queer as a 3 legged ballerina.

Anyway, of course, he was gung-ho... 'let's get ya started.'

I told him that I didn't bring my checkbook, and that I'd have to come back. In two hours and 20 minutes I could be in the class.
But, nah.

I've called quite a few restaurants/bars and asked 'are you hiring bartenders.' Each one has said they hire from within, and you have to work your way up to the bartending position.

I doubt it would help to much at that point if I could yell out 'Well, I went to the bartending school!!!

Fuck. I'm not quite sure I want to be a server. Although, I've never done anything like it before, it could be fun I guess. But, how's the money?

dballer - Hey bro... Since I left my work, I don't have your e-mail addy anymore... hit me up at [email protected] so I'll have it again!
