Barbell curls & forearm pain

Within the last couple of weeks I have increased my barbell curls and my preacher curls. I now have pain shooting through my forarms during excercise. Feels like my forarms are going to snap. :worried: This is not the case during DB curls or hammer curls.

I was told that this may be because my forarms/wrists are lagging along behind the growth of my BI's. Does this sound reasonable ??
I have since started doing a couple of sets of wrist curls after each workout.

Any suggestions ?? Am I on the right track ??

i have the same problem...fuck my wrists though i gave up on that shit. i just use the EZ bar now an i'm fine.

same with me, i can't use a straight bar for bi's or i have shooting pain up my forearms. switched to ez-curl a few years back and have had no problems since.

I have tried EZ also, pain still there. Are'nt you sacrificing, gains by dropping straight bar all together ??

Using a straight bar compared to an EZ will shredd your arms. This is why they call the other bar EZ. But it does hurt with the straight because it tends to stretch the fore arms.

Is it an intense muscular pain? The way you describe it, it almost seems like an injury.

i get that real bad some times only if i go 28 kg or 30kg dumbbell curls any less im alryt only thing doc said was lift lighter but fck that

I don't think it is muscle pain, it feels like bone pain (LOL). Some people say its my age :} Or maybe I've been married too long (stroke, stroke)

But all jokes aside. Its almost like i have to squeeze and release my hands a couple of times before it starts to fade, then after another set it comes back. Its only on those specific excercises.

Same thing happened to me, it's almost like a burning sensation in your forearms, right?. The tendons that run through your forearms and into your hands (the one's that work your fingesr)are rubbing against the sheathes they run in. This causes them to be come inflamed and painful. This is caused by using a straight bar for curls, it can put your hands/forearms in an unnatural position. Switch to a EZ bar and the pain will subside.

yea you are definitely getting a slightly lesser bicep workout using the ez bar, but i still have made gains with it and if you are also using DBs you should be legit

for those of you with wrist stress due to bicep curls....its a compound lift, it involves more than just isolating the biceps.

the wrists are supinated by the forearm muscle (the one under the joint that faces upwards when you are curling).

flex this muscle, and bring your wrists forward (upwards when looking down while curling) at an angle.

feel that forearm flex!!

now curl!

primary muscle- biceps
secodnary muscle/stabalizer- forearms

the majority of people iv talked to with wrist problems, really just have form problems, and try and relax their wrists while curling, which is retarded and puts too much stress on it

Thanks for all the input !! I will try to work a little more on form aswell as streching my forarms before the lift. I must say since I've started to use EZ a little more and have been doing a couple sets of wrist curls after each workout I have noticed a difference. Less pain and it is inproving my forearm strength.

Sarcasm noted.

All jokes aside, there is a distinct difference between:

1. Muscular pain
2. Tendon pain
3. Joint pain involving ligaments
4. Bone pain from micro fractures
5. Even nerves become damaged and offer a different kind of pain.

It was a reasonable question, and there's no need to be sarcastic.

No disrespect intended, I know your questions and comments were sincere. I just don't know how to seperate what might be muscle, joint or tendon pain. Since the pain has lessoned with EZ and more wrist excercises, I would not think it would be bone related. (?) Just the other day I felt a pain shoot through my arm and into my hand. Now I have a small bruise on the back of my hand. By my ring finger. Thats sounds like (I'm guessing here) a tendon pain (?)

Hi, I too have had the same problem for quite a while. It specifically occurs when i do barbell curls and the pain is substantially less if i do dumbbells or use an EZ bar.

I think it's because of a stress fracture that develops in the bone of your forearm because it is not strong enough to lift weight beyond a certain point in the barbell position (palms facing out).

This is why it doesn't pain when you do hammer curls, or easy bar curls as the triangular shaped muscle between your bicep and your forearm comes into action when your palms are facing inwards.

There is no such support when you do simple barbell curls...it's directly on your forearms and biceps. I hope my explanation makes sense.. :)

i dont know if mines the same but i get a forearm muscle pain whenever i release the bar after curling or if i spot someone on bench and have to help them out.. it doesnt hurt during the process only when releasing its like the muscles are getting pulled... if i let go of the bar really slowly its not so bad.. i dont let it stop me and ive switched to straight bar curls and the pains there i just tell it to stfu
