Preface

Client orders house full of furniture in Nov 03 before house construction is finished. Builder walks off job, new builder found - HOORAH. February, house is to be painted, painter comes in and the house is flooded all three levels with 2 feet of water on the lower level. Washer pipe burst on top level and had been running for some time (can you picture it). All the wood, rock and part of the stairs have to come out, house dried out, builder 2 walks off job.

April, client is still acting as GC and finds builder 3 and they rebuild the house.

Flash forward to June. About 80% the furniture has been in storage since Feb and the client is demanding to have furniture delivered but I said no because she was still living in rock, and wood/saw dust.

July - most of the furniture is delivery a few late order items are taking their sweet time.

September - Blinds are all installed and there is a defective blind that has to be replaced. Client refuses to pay balance; blind manufacture refuses to replace broken blind without payment (A circle jerk that was just heaven to go through.) Builder 3 walks off the job.

Still Sept - client threatens to cancel desk order because it's taking too long and she can't work without her desk (not sure why because she doesn't work) so I said ok I’ll cancel it. Then she was like “what do you mean you’re going to cancel it”. “Well”, I said “you can get the same desk delivered to you in three days and that sounds pretty good to me so go ahead, I’ll refund your money”. (She waited the extra 10 days for her desk)

Main Course
Today – two weeks ago she finally had received a cocktail table that had been delivered once before but came in pieces (thanks Fragile Freight). So she’s carrying on that she didn’t get the table she ordered. I asked her “how so”. She carries on about the color and the design, blah. Blah, blah.

So I said that I’d be happy to fax a copy of her invoice and signed drawing. After her tantrum I told her that she should have just said that she didn’t like the table than to suggest not receiving what she recalled ordering. HA! So her final comment was "I guess there’s nothing else to say then”.
Guess not.

I think we just broke up.

Oh, don't get me wrong.
I'd be happy not to hear from her again.

Why do you think she went through 3 builders (the place is still not done)?

I feel your pain. When i took over that exec job in Antigua, I found out AFTER I got there that PsychoWoman Owner had been through 6 chefs in less than three seasons.

When it smells like shit, it's often shit.

thats why i stopped building and selling computers. building and selling was no problem, it was the idiots who wanted a bottom of the line computer to do more than the latest and greatest and kept calling me asking me how just drove me nuts

"why isnt the internet working?" omg wheres my gun

No kidding.

Get this, she has a step son and he's a teen and teens can be noisy (she says) so she had all the ceilings done in 2 layers of 1/2" rock, 1 layer of homasoat, 2 layers of 1/2" rock. I never knew about because when I initially came to the job it was already done. I have only found out after, when they have to rip down everything.

So I asked her why did they do the ceiling like that and she mentioned her step son, noise and her hating noise, etc. So I look at her and I asked her if the builder sold her the idea. No, she says. What you need to know that the center of the house is like a courtyard with an L-shaped stair that is completely open from the lower lever, up to the second level. (3 stories) The noise is going to travel all over the center courtyard and into all the room that are open to it.

In business, there are some people you just don't want as customers no matter how rich and extravagant they are. Sometimes it's best just to not quote them prices or way overquote the job.

It's great when you can take money off assholes and never talk to them again.

Nice one, V.

Well, I didn't take anything - I earned every penny.
Not to mention covering the furniture storage bill.

I prefer people who make less than $120,000/year. The top 15-30% or something like that.

Wealthy people are just.....weird...sometimes.

Don't they suffer the most mental health problems? Perhaps they bring it on others?

Socially perhaps but for buisness no.
My work is such a luxury item that people making upwards $1 mil a year are the ones willing to pay for such design work.

I think that some people forget how to behave when they start making money. New money seems to be the worst behaved and really old money tends to be well, tight with their money and set in their ways (how do you think they keep it) so for me something in the middle works out very well.

I can't go by someone's bank account as to whether or not I can work with them, it's their desire to work with me and if we have the chemistry to work together for next 12-24 months.

They're all mental.,

:laugh2:

Well, I won't get a refferal from her now. Ah well.
But no one can say I didn't finish the job as ordered.

well, she probably will, but that's ok in my mind and in my records I did and that's cool for me.

I'm not certain that you really want her refferal....

Don't stress, Velvett.......you did what you were supposed to, going beyond the call, IMO.

I would have cut her bullshit short long ago.
