Bad neighbors

Last night when I went to my car to drive to work, there was a nasty sharp dent in the hood where someone had backed into me. One of my neighbors had obviously backed into my car when parking or leaving. Of course there was no note or knock on my door.

From the height and shape of the dent, it was obviously caused by a truck or SUV with a trailer hitch mount. Two tenants in my building have trucks tall enough to have done this - an F150 and a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Last night when I got home from work, both were parked in places where there was no one behind them, so I was able to pull up and see which one matched the dent. The Jeep was a perfect match, and also had traces of red paint on the offenting trailer hitch bracket.

I don't know which apartment the girl who drives the Jeep lives in, so I left the following note taped to the inside of the front door to our building:

"Neighbors:

Yesterday, sometime between 4:30 PM and 9:30 PM, someone backed into the front of my car, the old red Honda, and left a nasty dent. Please do the right thing, come forward and take responsibility for your actions.

The dent just happens to be the height and shape of a trailer hitch mount on a truck or SUV. There are two such vehicles here..."

Should be interesting to see what, if anything, happens next.

My wife backed her Jeep Cherokee into the neighbors Neon about a year ago. Square mark of her hitch in the front bumper. Cost us $400 to get it fixed. She went right over and told them.

Then she has her Jeep hit in the parking lot where she works. Cost us another $250 to reapair that one. No one ever admitted to hitting her Jeep.

My truck has been hit so many times I can't count now.....Got a brand new bumper on it from the Power Co. backing into it & yesterday noticed it got scraped & a hole is in it.....God that ticks me off!! :redhot:

My guess is that by tomorrow morning there will be two dents in your car.
The chances of anyone coming forward are slim to none.

I had a woman bang into my car while I was sitting in it and she denied the whole thing. Just like I denied scraping the hood of her car with my keys. It wasn't me.

Give her a couple days. Then post a picture under your note with your Honda next to her Jeep showing the evidence.

Say it happened kind of like this.

We can round up the posse and remedy the situation...

Aero, Recruit, Myself, Silver, Juiced...

 I bet we could find out what happened....

Honestly, there is no need for them to admit it. I would be on the phone with the police so fast your fucking head would spin. They will be able to tell, just like you did. Get them for a hit and run, and they're porked.

must suck to have to park on the street

I don't have to. I have a reserved covered parking space behind our building. I don't usually bother to use it in the afternoon for my time off between my split shifts at work.

Will the cops even bother with a parking accident? I got hit in the parking lot at work a couple of years ago, and even knew who did it (she hit two cars), she bolted, we called the cops, then she re-appeared about an hour later, and we called the cops again and they said "oh we weren't going to come anyway".

Parking lots are private property and out of their jurisdiction unless you are renting cops. Then they will enforce any rule that you make up.

Seen it again last night.

Hopefully you wrote down the license plate number.
If they don't come forward (which they prob wont), I would file a police report and call your insurance company. Don't forget to take pictures of all the "evidence" you gather. Submit the pictures with the police report. The insurance company will take care of going after them.

Photographs have been taken. The Macro lens on my old Nikon came in handy for some extreme close-ups. I found additional scratches on my bumper that line up perfectly with parts under her bumper, which just happen to look scraped and have red paint on them (my car is red, her Jeep is black).

It's the girl in the apartment right next to mine. I see no evidence of her having awakened yet, so she may not have been downstairs and seen my computer-generated note taped to the glass on the front security door. I'll give her some time to come forward before attempting to confront her.

I blame mostly the parents. And MTV.

She came forward, 'bout 1:45 PM. Seemed very apologetic and penitent, said she was running late to drop someone off at the airport last night. I guess I believe her, that seems like the sort of irresponsible way that young women think.

Since it's a holiday weekend, we'll deal with the insurance nasties on Tuesday.

She heard the posse was coming...

That's a squad right there!!!!!!!!!!! :chomp:

Judge Mathis! Just let them turn into jerks in his courtroom and you'll win hands down.

No really, sorry to hear about your problem. Some people really suck and all we can do is stand up for ourselves. Good Luck!

thats what im thinking too-- someone must've PM'd her that C&C was on its way...

The bad thing about that is...WE ALL LIVE WITHIN DRIVING DISTANCE!!

Arkansas is a small little place!!

But it sounds like Deebs has it all worked out...

Just smash out the windows of the two vehicles. One of them did it, and the other probably did it to someone else. Sorry, I am a little aggressive today for some reason...

I have taken pictures. Gotta get the film developed though. Got some nice close-ups.

She doesn't have a license tag. That's probably another one of those things that she thinks she can just take care of later. This is one of those girls who can get by just by being cute.

Since it's a holiday, I have to wait 'til Tuesday to deal with her insurance.
