my boy's apt got broken into on NYE, and had thousands of dollars worth of stuff stolen from him, including some valuable camera equipment. After scouring craiglist every day, he finally finds his camera stuff for sale. He contacts the seller, acting like an interested local buyer, and arranges to meet the douchebag at a starbucks near his work to make the purchase. He is also able to track down the guy's facebook based on the contact info, and then went to the police. The guy already has B&E priors, and the cops agree to make the purchase undercover. So today was the big day, and the cops went in to buy the stolen merch. The transaction is made, and then the fucker gets arrested on the spot. They were able to prove it was stolen from my friend because he has all the serial numbers and proofs of purchase. My boy is getting all his stuff back, and this d-bag is most likely going to prison.

Thats fucking awesome. Happy for your bro.

Reminds me of one of the DJs I listed to here in Chicago in the morning...his house got broken in to and they stole his tv, computer, etc. Cops caught up with him 3-4 days later and he came at them with a knife. Cops shot him and his girlfriend/partner dead on the spot.

The fact that the robbers came in through his 4 year old son's bedroom window made the day they got shot the happiest day of his life.

That is an awesome story.

You know the police wouldn't have the resources to scour craigslist or look at pawn shops. I wonder if anyone could ever setup a private company and work for a % of the goods' value. Then we could pass a law that makes those costs payable by the thief.
