Avodart gave me gyno

split endz

New member
I have never done gear beyond a few var only cycles & one with var & topical test (over a year ago). However, I have been on avodart consistantly for about 5 yrs because I am prone to hairloss. My md actually prescribed the avodart to me after I convinced him of its effectivity, and he has monitered my usage. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed some nipple sensitivity out of the blue; very out of the blue since I haven't even taken var in over 8 months. A few days later I found a lump under my left nipple; about the size of a pinball. We to my doc & he said it was most likely from avodart. I did my research & discovered that avodart can and does cause gyno. I returned to my doc today to ask for a nolva script to combat the gyno, but he doesn't like the idea at all. He said nolva, arimi, clomid, etc all have too many possible negative effects (pulmonary thrombosis, stroke, etc) to use for gyno. I argued with him for about 45 min today & even showed him some data I had printed off the web. He is not convinced that it is worth the risk. How ironic for me to get gyno after being so conservative about gear. Since my doc isn't going to help with my treatment of gyno, anyone here have success with nolva to abolish gyno? I have nolva on hand. Any help with this appreciated.

I think using an AI would be a better option because you are more than likely having the excess testosterone converted into estrogen (since avodart is blocking this conversion), in addition to also missing out on the aromatase inhibiting aspect of the lost DHT. How long have you had the gyno? You would think that after some point your SHBG would increase.

Anyways, first I would look into maybe trying the weaker option: finasteride. Or, if your hair loss is localized, I would try finasteride or dutasteride crushed up and mixed with spironolactone cream and apply that often to the troubled areas. If you do stick with Avodart, then I would look into some steroidal AI's, like aromasin, formestane, and maybe the new product "Erase" which is supposedly completely nonsupressive (I haven't seen any proof, however). With Nolva you would only mask the nipple effects of estrogen, not to mention lower important things like IGF-1 levels

Thanks for the reply. I have only had the gyno for approx 3 weeks. One of the problems with avodart is how long it stays in your system after stopping using the product (up to 6 months my doc said). I do have some arimidex on hand. Do you think arimi would be better than nolva to bust this pinball? If so, how much (maybe .5mg e 4th day?) Haven't heard or 'erase'...sounds interesting.

So do you plan on staying on avodart? If you are, and you want to get rid of the lump, I think letrozole is the only AI strong enough to tank your estrogen and hence get rid of the lump. But that's a 30 day max kind of thing, and you would have to work on keeping a new flare up from occurring.

I don't think nolva will get rid of the lump. It might keep it from growing or maybe shrink it a little; plus, once you stop, it would regress since all you did was block estrogen sites rather than reduce estrogen levels. Also, I wouldn't use arimidex because I don't think it's strong enough to eliminate estrogen effectively...plus, staying on it will trash your lipids, IGF-1, etc. That's where a steroidal AI would be beneficial. I would keep the nolva on hand and take it for a week or two after the letro treatment while making the change from letro to aromasin/formestane/erase

I stopped taking avodart as soon as I found the lump (2 wks ago), but from what I have read, it does not break down easily & stays in the system a long time; so it may still be blocking dht conversion. I'm watching my hairline & hoping I don't start losing a lot. If I do, I will probably try propecia instead of avodart since it is weaker. Why do you say letro is a 30 day max thing ? Does it have dangerous sides ? Thanks again bro, this is stressing me out.

Great reply and exactly what I was thinking as I started reading his thread. Great contribution to the forums my man and thanks for being here.

TO the OP, keep in mind that your doctor is a pretty smart dude and yes the drugs you are talking about do have some side effects attached to them.. I am convinced that a natural serm and or Ai product would be plenty enough estrogen reducing effects for the problem you are having... It would be plenty enough to "keep gyno away"

However the problem is now you have gyno. Something stronger is needed to get rid of it.. You can now ether buy some letro, nolva,Aromisin and get rid of the gyno you have now quickly.. Or you can buy a legal suicide aromatase inhibitor/serms product called forma-stanzol from mrsupps.com.. Do a google search on this product its got a real drug in it that is a Ai and it works. It takes about a week to reach peak levels . 10 pumps am and 10 pumps pm and what little gyno you are experiencing right now will be cleared up in a month or less.

Then You can drop your forma-stanzol dose doen to 5 pumps am and 5 pumps pm ( bottle last 8 weeks at this dose) and stay on this. I think its still better that you switch over to a 100% natural serm/Ai kind of a product after this though. It will be better for your overall health. Or even dropping the forma-stanzol down to as low as 3 pumps am and pm..

Thanks for chiming in needto.. appreciate both posters. I will do my research on forma-stanzol; sounds like it may be safer than nolva. What would be an effective 'nautral serm/Ai kind of product' to stay on or take intermittently to prevent gyno from rearing it's ugly head in the future. Thanks again.
