At what age did you move out and WHY?

is my surrogate mother, LOL.I officially left home to take care of myself when I was 21. I moved into an apartment at my grandfather's house. My mother owned the home, so I didn't have to pay rent. However I had to pay utilities. It was nice. I left NYC when I was 22 and moved to VA to start my life over. I didn't have any family, friends or acquaintances in the D.C. metropolitan area. Best decision of my life.

3. Pay monthly for a room that shares the bathroom, has no oven or stove, and offers no privacy if there is a roommate.
4. Will be in college next year. Will not share a room with some 18 year old kid who will drink or bug me for beer, keep the place trashed because his mom cleaned up after him, and will allow anyone the opportunity to eat my food. Thank God that Drexel offers single rooms.

I'm still in it. Don't get me wrong it has it's ups. I'll have an ass load of benefits when I get out. And don't think I would do it differently if given the chance to do it again. But I won't stay active duty enlisted in the Marines. Reserve officer in the Army if I decide to make a comeback.

Yes and no. Go from living with your parents who tell you what to do to living with a bunch of guys roughly the same age as you telling you what to do, but they have the ability to see to it that you don't get a raise.
You should see some of these guys. They got away from their parents, but are in such a bind financially that they literally can not afford to get out of the military.

dam state.it ant easy thow.if you keep youre haed on strate and do what youre told and get a good pt score you can make rank fast.I was in italy with a three bedroom aprt everything incooded.2500 dollers a mouth for spending.its the life if you can deal with not havving a life....HS Lifter said:

18 and one week old when i ranaway sort of - i didnt tell my stepmother or father i was leaving to go out of town i just took off and when i came back my stepmother was ticked and so i sort of got kicked out/moved out.
i dont know if at first it was a smart idea cause i didnt finish school like i could have; i lost my job that i had since i was 14 and i got married to a loser and didnt have a home for a while - i even lived on the streets for a certain amount of time.
now i have a beautiful home wonderful man and a nice paying job ( not my dream job)
I dont think i would do it all over again if i was given the chance because even at the age of 23 i know i have learned the best and most fruitful of lessons. the one thing i cherish the most is the lesson i learned about cherishing everyone and everything even if it isnt always in my interest or a positive thing.

Do you consider college moving out? Lived about 8 hours away from home for four years during college, but didn't pay my entire way through that so it probably doesn't count.
I moved out at age 24. Would have been sooner, but I went to grad school 10 minutes from my parents' house and was too smart to not take advantage of free room and board. The extra money spent is definitely worth it. It makes it difficult, but for me, personal freedom and privacy is one of the most important things for my own happiness.

Moved out at 17. Told my dad that I wanted to join the military, and he signed off on the paperwork. My brother, on the other hand, lived with my parents until he was 30.

Lived with my gran till I was 16.
Been on my own since then.
It was very hard at times trying to get enough money for rent and go to school. Plus, despite what all your fiends say about how cool it is to live on your own, it can be hard and lonely. There are the obviuos things I would like back but my life now is great.

20, when I transfered to a different school. I can't stand being home for more than a few days at a time now, maybe because I'd spent so much time there.

Very worth it for me, i grew up and I became independant at a young age. It also make me appreciate all that my mother did for me and we have had a great relationship since then.

I was 23. Graduated from college and went off to kill commies. It was simply time to grow up and get a life.
My son left at 22 upon graduation because he wanted a single guy's life out of my sight. (Ha Ha). He went into an apartment, but after two years bought a house. It helped him on his taxes and gave him pride of ownership.
Daughter left at 24 to get married and go to medical school out of state. I'm sure she was glad to escape my iron grip.

If my dad forwards me a little extra cash tomorrow here, that will buy me some time while I wait on a job. THEN I will be out. I dont hate living with my family...but I feel too outta place living under someone elses commands and rules. I need my freedom. I need my privacy. I need discover the rest of life on my own.

HS, if you don't get on with your parents, then fine, but if you do, waiting a few years to move out will set you up financially much better in life and given that the cost of living everywhere continues to rise, it's a smart idea to wait.
So many of my friends moved out at 19, 20 etc in order to have 'independance'. Well, most are now 30 and none of them are very financially independant........they have very little savings to speak of and very little disposable income to enjoy and will probably never own their own their nown place. If you can't afford to live the lifestyle you want and deserve then independance means fuck all IMO.

TIGER, Done with the JC and will probably transfer to cal state fullerton fall of 06(I have my AA and 60 transferable units, but have this fucking math class that keeps owning me, Im pretty much wasting one year due to math, which sucks).
I moved out when I was 23. My mom had me paying rent and felt I could give more. She demanded what was nearly half my pay at the time or hit the road. I got a one bedroom in the next county that cost more than I was paying her. It was worth it because I finally had privacy and peace & quiet.
moved out when i was 19 when my mom walked in on me and my gf getting our groove on. i was in college and had just broken my arm. i had a few thousand saved up from working construction, and after i was able to return to work, i worked 3 different part time jobs while paying out of pocket (NO LOANS AT ALL) to go to school

Best thing i ever did for myself. However, if I had of been cool with the 'rents (if she wasn't in the equation at the time) I would have stayed until they kicked me out...banked all my $$...and be a rich mo fo ho at 25.
