arm turning purple

back in jan. my shoulder was giving hella pains and obvious bruising or vessel popping after any workout involving shoulder movement.

I've never had any real trauma to my shoulder but i went and got and mri and i had a little cartilage fray and a partial tear of my rotator cuff. this was in late feb.

Doc recomended P.T. for a month so march through april in P.T.

P.T. worked its magic and my arm felt good.

but now im back in the gym and i don't have any significant pain only my turns purple in various parts like blood vessels popping or bruising. the discoloration is obvious to anyone who looks at my arm but its gone within 15 minutes.

and im taking care of my shoulders more than ever warming up with thera-bands and stretching real good.

someone tell me wtf is wrong with me.

doc doesn't have any clue what the discoloration is and hes a shoulder specialist.

If it's only in one arm, you should probably see a vascular surgeont to make sure you don't have any problems with the axillary, brachial, or subclavian veins. You may have an anomaly, muscle hypertrophy may block blood return to the heart, or you may have an extra rib that can block blood return. If you are at risk for a deep vein thrombosis, then that should be ruled out as well.

If blood return is blocked, the built-up pressure can cause blood vessels to burst when they are under extreme amounts of stress. However, one would think your arm would be swollen compared to the other.

I'm assuming your platelet level is fine? Other than those causes, I can't really think of anything else. However, I do recommend you see someone other than an orthopedic surgeon (such as a vascular surgeon and primary care physician) to rule out other causes.

i do beleive that my arm swells a little because sometimes it becomes uncorfortable to do certain motions.
