I threw away every single norton product on my computer and installed panda softwear instead , knock on wood it's caught every virus for the past 3 years . That norton stuff is crap

Yea norton sucks. Avast has caught everything on mine

The best anti virus and anti spyware is DON"T USE WINDOWS!!! Windows sucks so bad!! There is an industry created because windows sucks so bad and I'm talking about Norton and symantec. Use Linux. No viruses, no spyware none of that crap. Firewall software included with linux, so nobody can hack directly into your computer.

And if you do anything you don't want to leave a trail on your hard drive from you can download a live CD version of Linux and use that. Everything is in memory and it's gone when you reboot or shut down.

Myself I use Slackware linux.

I don't know why those hacking geeks get there rocks off by infecting others computers. I do wonder sometimes if they are tied to the anti-virus guys, but that's just the way my cynical mind works.

Zone Alarm Securtiy Suite works friggen awesome!! I got rid of Norton and put this in, and WOW it found AT LEAST 7-8 virus spyware that Norton missed!!
Cool thing is that I got it for free from a hacker friend of mine at work! He ripped it off some business website and the cool thing is it doesn't expire for like 120 years!!! :) :) " lifetime membership" and it automaticly updates it's self every day! :) :) :)

TRAIN, EAT, LIVE LIKE A ANIMAL!!

Norton System Works has worked well for me for 2 years on both of my machines
I have Ad Aware, Xoftspy, and Registry Mechanic on all my home computers.
The IT's at the college that I am interning for the summer at have Trend Micro and it is awesome.

I have 2 installed,AdAware, and eTrust EZ Armor,I run them both every couple of weeks, they both pick up some that eachother miss, also clear your cookies and do a disk cleanup in windows every couple of weeks as well, doesnt hurt to do a disk defrag simply to improve performance too.

To be honest there are loads of different Anti-spyware, anti-virus programs out there alot are free and alot are expensive.

If you think your computer is infected you can try multiple programs to help you rid the pesky bastards.

Anti-Spyware

Symantec Anti-Virus - Definately the best if you want to buy a anti-virus package - you can buy it pretty much at any PC shop.

Other Tips

1. Make sure you have your Windows Firewall Turned On (If applicable)
2. If you have a Router, LiveBox or Configurable Modem ensure you have the firewall set as high as possible.
3. Always check to ensure you Anti-spyware and Anti-virus is up to date.
4. Run regular scans
5. Keep away from dodgy sites and never download anything your unsure about and dont say "Accept" or "Yes" to anything that pops up unless your are 100% sure its safe.
6. Any programs you download that say they are Spyware free be sure they are some have stuff like MyWebSearch toolbars that install which is highly annoying.
7. NEVER, EVER Use any peer2peer programs such as Limewire, E-mule, Soulseeker etc because they are all full to the brim of shite!!
8. Always be aware of attachments via e-mail make sure you know what your opening.

Thats pretty much it!

Or you could just get a mac and NEVER have to worry about any of the spyware or viruses...
For anyone without a great need to be using Windows, a Mac is an excellent choice. There are no known viruses.

If you use Windows just for the occasional game, modern Macs can easily be set up to dual-boot either into Windows or into the Apple operating system. Thus, you can run your games and then boot back into the safety of the mac os.

If you don't care to fork out for a new Apple machine, consider using Linux. For basic web browsing, you'll likely not even notice that you're not in Windows after a couple of times using it except for the complete lack of spyware and viruses.
