Anyones calf ever tense up real bad when they wake up?

Anyone here ever have that horrible pain in thier calves when they wake up? It happens to my brother a lot but today it happend to me. The muscle tensed up and it had all the veins goin and everything....good god did it hurt!:freak: Anyways, anyone know what causes this? and how do I not let it happen again?

1) when the muscle is out of shape and then gets overused - I used to get them in the pool when I hadn't swam in a while, and 2) salt deficiancies - usually potassium I think.
 
I think it is a mystery disease. Happens to me sometimes so bad i scream. I can't walk for like 20 minutes. I get plenty of potassium.

when I'm on a cycle, if I walk anywhere, my calves flex intensely and pretty much cramp up.
but sometimes it makes them look pretty good. just hard to walk.
 
"back in the days" when i used to be a sprinter it sometimes happend to me..i would wake up in the middle of the night, and my calf would cramp up real bad and i wouldnt be able to release it..so id have to jank it out with my hand..hearing a big SNAP..and they id lay there and breath heavy because of the imense pain..wouldnt be able to walk all day
 
I always used to get it in both calves back when I played football. A quick way to stop the cramping is to curl your toes and feet upwards.
 
yeah Lat, of your able..to me it was to painfll..so i had to take hold of my foot and bend it uppwards with my hands

yeah I dont think its a potassium deficiancy, at least for me anyways. Although Ive heard that before. I used to only work calves once a week since I have pretty good calves to start with but I now do them 2x a week and maybe thats what did it.
 
only time I get seriouse muscle cramps....morning....calve.....reasoning...dehydration, electrolight imbalance. Hurts worse than anything....like some one taking you muscle and pushing it through a meat shredder......
 
I hear you - sometimes when I wake up, my dick is rock hard and I have to punch it to get it to go away.

They are called "charlie horse's" and they hurt like a bitch. When I was dancing (no not stripping, ballet) I would get them quite often in the middle of the night. All I could do was flex my feet back and punch the hell out of my calves. It wouldn't just happen to one leg at a time, hell no, I had to sit there with both feet flexed wacking the crap out of myself for about 5 minutes, the bruises were really nice too.

kart....they are a BITCH!!! I couldn't even massage mine they hurt so bad....dead sleep...I wake up screaming...and can't move....last for like 30 secs...but its an eternity!!!!...also used to scare the shit out of my bf back in the day.....I guess then it was worth it:)
 
when I swam and got them, I'd go over to the edge of the pool and look at them - they were always either in the arch of my foot or in my calf. knots of intense burning pain. put if you took the pressure off of the muscle and massaged it, it went away.

it is almost always a sign (for me at least) of being out of shape, or at least that partiular muscle. once you get it in good shape, it can do all that it needs to more efficiently and it won't freak out like that.
 
yeah mine lasted for about 30 seconds as well....it seemed like it was never gonna go away. I alwyas thought my calf muscles where in really good condition but...maybe not:bawling:
 
This has happened to me before. Back when I was a car salesman I used to get them after walking around on concrete in dress shoes. I've had them during sleep too.
 
first thing in the morning if i stretch too hard.. cramps right up like a ball and hurts like hell for about 2 minutes.. actually my calf hurts right now too :(
