Anyone into pistol hunting ?

I know some states allow pistol/wheelguns for hunting under strict rules. ANyone tried or do that regularly ? This is something I'd like to try, just for the challenge.

Other than a few snakes, I haven't shot much of anything with a pistol.

Indeed it is. Aint that easy to shoot a deer with a .44 Magnum. Getting closer must be a pain in the ass...

I go with a 38 backup. Never hunted exclusively with one.

I've been handgun hunting in PA for about 10 years now. I live in NJ and we have pretty liberal bag limits between archery and gun seasons, along with all the permits you can get, so just taking another deer isn't the goal. I have not fired a single shot at an animal yet with my handguns. The first year I went, I had a yearling black bear under my treestand, but I kept waiting for the sow, and she never left the safety of the laurels. I had the revolver cocked and was holding on that yearling three seperate times though, just never shot. I have also had does within easy range, and one time had a deer that I thought was a buck about 15 yards away, but it was still pre-dawn, and I couldn't be sure I saw antlers, so again I didn't shoot.
For me, anything that I would shoot at in archery season is an easy shot with the revolver. The hard part is that by the time Pennsy's gun season starts, the trees are bare, and it's harder to get that close to the deer. Well, I guess if it was easy, I'd have moved on to something else by now.
