Anyone here ever been in the armed forces?

I am thinking of joining either the Army or the Marines. I will probably hold off for now but if the US has what looks like ane xtended war over this terorism stuff, I will without a doubt join up. This is something I was considering doing evebn before this attack.

I am just wondering what goes on, noone in my family has ever been in the military before an dI dont know any people in it. Im in good physical shape but I'm not huge or really strong (good endurace in relation to my body weight tho, I can do a lot of pullups + pushups and run 6:00 miles for more than an hour)

So, if I joined the marines what is basic trainign like? I'm pretty tough mentally, Ive put up with alot of shit in the past and I think that would be ok. Do they do that shit we used to hear about on the news where they pound the USMC pins into your chest? that kinda stuff I can do without. Also I heard in basic training they make the tallest guy or the oldest guy the squad leader a lot, that might be me as I am 6'5 and 22 rs old. But I'm a shitty leader to be honest if I joined up I would have to get more maturity to lead, I would be much better in a grunt position (dont get me wrong I've got brains, Im just shitty at dealing with people)

Well I want to serve my country...just considering my options.

thanks

I haven't been in the armed forces myself. But two guys from Nellis Air Force base fucked my ass a couple of months ago. So, you might say that the armed forces has been in me.

P.S. One of them made me call him Goose while he fucked me.:p

ex army here. at this point go ahead and join any branch, as long as you serve...the way I see it however, the Marines may get limited action if there is a war in Afghanistan because there is no access by sea. And if it is going to be a war fought "in the shadows", as Colin Powell said, expect Special Forces and Intelligence personnel to see much of the action.

Former Army Ranger.

Army Infantry always sees action.

Recent Army Enlisted. Either way do what you feel is right

I enlisted before this and feel more right in doing so now. Both of my grandfathers served in WWII, one of my great grandfathers served in WWI

Many Cousins and Uncles have served. All of them in different Branches. They all have good things to say about their service time, even though all of them say it couldn't be compared to the military of today

Thanks guys.

Right now I know jack about the military, I've never even fired a fucking rifle in the last 8 years.

Is that gonna be a problem

c'mon you guys, can you answer some of the questions? Or tell me a little bit about what a marine or army will experience his first few weeks or months
