Anyone gone to a funeral alone?

It will be weird I will know a couple people, an old acquintance from college.

I'm thinking that I'll stand in the back.

Is that acceptable?

I'd like to go but I don't want to go through the whole process...

ive never gone to a funeral alone but i have paid my respects at the funeral home to a lady i worked with a long time ago

I haven't. But I have seen others do it. When my grandmother died several people showed up alone, usually they were unmarried elderly people and noone seemed to care.

Yep, my first time last April. I am very secure person and do lots alone, but that was weird walking into a room of ppl I did not know.
You just walk in, say hello and pay your respects, then leave! It's all good!

I haven't been to lots of funeral, less than 10, but I always had someone there that I knew. Plenty of people come alone to them, and no one thinks a thing of it.

Nothing wrong with going alone or standing in the back.

Requirement would be to take a minute to pay your respects to the Family if you know them.

You don't have to go up and gawk at the dead person to pay your respects.

I know his fiance.

Is it customary to walk up to the front of the church before the service or do I wait until it is over. There is no burial he is being creamated.

Normally the only time it would be proper to walk up to the front before the service or when directed to is if there is a body for viewing,
Open Casket. Or if they have pictures etc sitting up there for you to look at and chat with the family.

Otherwise, just try not to be late and don't skip out early.
That is bad Mojo..

I have. If you feel like you should go, then you should. . .period.

That's true. I've missed a few funerals in my time and regretted it. Remember, funerals aren't for the dead, they are for the living. The family will appreciate it.

Yup. Besides, the human race in general is so fucked up (imho) that, if I blew off everything that made me feel "uncomfortable", I'd never go anywhere.

well i went, it was very nice. i had to hold them back when they had a cello player play Oh Danny Boy very slow.

I was like Jesus, thats really it isnt it. :(

Good for you, bro. I know what you're saying. My cousin died unexpectedly a year and a half ago. We (my brothers and I) went to his funeral. . .during the funeral, his wife got up and read a love letter that he wrote to her on their anniversary. . .three days before he died. . .wasn't a dry eye in the house except me and my brothers. . .when we were kids, my dad used to kick our asses when we cried so now, we just kind of don't. That was the closest that I came in a long time. . .actually felt kind of human for a few minutes. . .kind of nice in a weird sort of way.

yeah i know what you mean. ive spent the better part of 26 years supressing emotion. I was hit with the terrible loss of this poor girls fiance and seeing my ex there who when we were together were good friends with them.

I've felt more human in the last three days than a long time...

It's so worth it if there is an Irish wake involved. In college we used to pruse the obits for WWII vet's with names like Sean Flannigan and crash the wakes! I'm ashamed of myselft today but desperate times call for desperate measures!

the funeral biz has taught me more about life and living
than death and dying

got to stay off the alcohol though

yeah it's quite acceptable to attend solo
and each one of you means much to the grieving
so go alone if it's your only option

the funeral's for many of the older/elderly are like cocktail parties
everyone catching up with each others shit etc.

I'll joke "we need more tonic water in parlor B"

Man, that's how the recent funeral I went to felt. Went alone, but lots of us knew each other from high school and what have you. Just socialized for a few hours and catching up.

There's a memorial concert for him this weekend. Should be interesting.

Man that kid was a good kid. He was the passenger in a WRX doing about 95 around a turn the driver couldn't negotiate. Fuckin shame.

That's how I totalled my STi. I just went into a field and gutted the car on a ditch, thank god. If there were any trees or rocks, I'd be a vegetable at best.

I have gone to funerals for years alone.. Its a way to pay respect not be the center of attention..

Next time you go to a funeral, notice the old people staring at the deceased.. They are contemplating what they are going to look like in that state.. True

Not a week ago 4 kids died 15 min. from me when some idiot teenager decided it would be fun to do 120mph on your average back road, in a WRX.

I'm def not blaming the car. But man... that sucks...

Yeah, one of my friends lives on a road that's a curvy, fun road. The only problem is, it has houses all along it so you can't drive it fast. There have been a number of teenagers that have rolled their cars into his neighbor's crash wall. One fucktard in his brand new turbo Porsche died on there. There are roads to drive fast on and there are roads that would be really fun, but you can't. I was in rural Utah near farm land. The only person that could've been hurt would have been me. That's such a waste though. I can't imagine hurting someone because I was irresponsible, let alone kill 4.

do straight women find that pic erotic at all?
like if it was 2 teen girls almost all straight men would wood for that

Eleanor Rigby. Sometimes I feel all alone as if I'm not connected to anyone or anything. Not a good feeling.

I was just wondering if standing or sitting alone in the back of the church was considered acceptable.
i think it would be ok as long as the church has a lot of people in it, i mean if it is a big church and there are lots of seats u will look kinda strange standing in the back, id sit in the last row in the back where there are people
