Anyone ever trained with Lou Ferrigno?

I bet he charges a ridiculous amount of money ... I wonder if he still yells "ARNOLD!" between each rep?

i have never met him but have read way too many stories of people saying so. over at muscle mayhem a lot of pros and really into the scene people are continually saying that he is the biggest asshole ever.
i remember reading one story that a guy watched a little boy (6 yrs old or so) go up to Lou and ask for a autograph and Lou responded with, "20 bucks." well the kid didnt have it so the boy said, "i dont have that." Lou said back, "sorry, go ask your dad for the money then come back."
pathetic! a child asking for an autograph get treated like shit cuz his ass is greedy.

I don't think I would hold it against him to ask for the $ for a sig.

Besides, why would a 6 year old want an autograph other than his father probably using him to get it.

I'm not sure about that story. The person who said that was Greg Valentino, a liar. He refuses to admit that he shoots synthol into his arm, or any other type of oil. Yeah right, 30"+ arms just off juice .... can't trust a guy like that. But maybe Lou is an asshole, I don't know. But he did go through a lot. Apparently in his autobio, he writes that he used to get the shit beat out of him by his dad, and when he became too big, his dad used a gun. Eventually he had to move out, but having no money he slept on the beach. That's some shit.

that's very inaccurate...nowhere in his book does he say that.

Yes Lou does private training. Go to LouFerrigno.com and e-mail him or his wife for more info.

Everyone hears stories of how Lou is so mean to people at expo's. Was anyone there first hand? Oh wait, these are all stories heard from others, thats right. Nevermind there. But let's say for a moment he did seem cold towards others. The man can hardly hear, he relies on lip reading most of the time to understand people. When you are at an expo and you have thousands of people all around the place yelling, talking loud, and at your own booth 50-100 people all around asking to buy stuff, sign something, etc it's hard enough to be polite to everyone, and thats for someone who can hear everyone. Imagine how hard it is for Lou? I could see how some people may be asking him something, but not directly in front of him, and he didn't hear them. Then that person goes on the net and says how horrible Lou is. Everyone who meets him one on one, or in less stressful enviorments says the man is a gentle giant. I've talked to him through e-mails a few times, and he was always very nice to me. He never once came off as rude. If some teenage (this was years ago) fan wrote me on the pc, I wouldn't respond back in a few hours, if at all!

As for him charging for his autograph, the guy is making a living off this. He isn't Arnold. He doesn't have big money laying around. Do any of you give free stuff away at work? I wouldn't give some 6 year old kid who has his cheap ass father standing right there a free autograph. If you did that with one person, you would have to do it with all of them! Then you would have people coming on line saying "Lou charged me $10.00 for his autograph, but he gave a few people throughout the day a free one, what an ass!" The point is, he is there to make a living, not do charity work. I'm sure if you went up to him at a mall, or at the gym, he would be more than happy to sign something for free.

yeah from my research in the past few days all i heared was positive stuff about him and this is from people who met him first hand not some online stories.

thanks people

good post.

Yeah, do a google search on Lou. Theres a few interviews where he talks about how his father was very mentally abusive, and how he would sometimes beat him. When he got too big to beat up, his father would pull his gun on him. From the sound of it, that happened only once. Also if you buy the Trial of the Incredible Hulk/Return of the Incredible Hulk 2 disc dvd set, theres an interview with him in one of the discs special features where he talks about how bad his father was, and how their relationship was all made up in pumping iron. He even said he almost became like that with his children, and had to break the cycle, so he wouldn't become like his father.

ps. Lou has a few books. I think the one where he talks a lot about his home life is out of print, but I think you can get a used copy on amazon.com for like $2.00 lol

I recently read an article where he was interviewed about his hearing loss, and I was moved and impressed by what he wrote. Don't know him, of course, but I had the impression that he's a warm & understanding guy.
