Anyone else have this problem regarding the timing of nature's call?

At the moment I'm training in the mornings, and this is what is happening to me each morning before my workout (which usually begins at 10.30am):

I wake up, go to the toilet to do #1 and #2, have my breakfast of oats (cooked in half milk, half water), scrambled egg-whites and fruit and then I need to go again for #2... And after about 10 minutes, I need to go again for a third time.
I often go 3 - 4 times before my workout and sometimes there are loose stools. I also find that for the rest of the day, I don't need to go at all (only for #1).

I have been eating a reasonably high protein, high fibre diet for quite a while now, as well as the same breakfast for a while, so my bowels must be used to it. I also constantly sip water throughout the day when I can, and drink a 600ml bottle with meals.

age? allergies? naseau? any days of constipation? feeling of incomplete defacation (like feeling there is stool there but actually not there)?

Age = 19

I don't feel any nausea or incomplete defacation. The feeling that I need to **** goes away after I finish but comes back another 10 minutes later. Nor do I have any days of constipation. I don't think I have any allergies to food either.

Is it something I'll have to live with and hope it doesn't make me late to uni in the future, or is there some way to re-time the body's need to ****?

Alternatively, is it possible to develop lactose intolerance as one grows older? I used to drink milk quite a bit when I was a kid and it didn't seem to affect me.

Possible, but probably not the problem. You'd most likely experience nausea and/or bloating if you were lactose intolerant.

It is possible you may be getting TOO much fiber; in today's society, that's a fairly rare problem. Sounds like normal bowel movements, just increased in frequency and volume.

Try slowly cutting down on your fiber intake, and see what happens.

What supplements are you currently using?

Thanks for your help...

This morning, I didn't need to go before breakfast but I went twice after breakfast and once when I arrived at the gym (before my workout). Stools were slightly loose the third time I went. Now I won't need to go for the rest of the day.

The only supplements I'm taking are whey (post workout), 10g of creatine (5g before and 5g after workout) and a multivitamin daily.

Here is a list of all the fibre I ate yesterday (note: I'm not listing all the foods, just the sources of fibre).

BREAKFAST:
- 1/2 cup (raw measurement) of oatmeal [insoluble]
- Mixed fruit (1/2 banana, 1/2 apple, berries [insoluble + soluble]

MEAL 2:
- 1/2 cup (cooked measurement) of brown rice [insoluble]

MEAL 3:
- Extra large garden salad (spinach, lettuce, cucumber, capsicum, celery, tomato) [soluble + insoluble]
- 1/4 cup (raw measurement) dried kidney beans [soluble + insoluble]

MEAL 4:
- Handful of snowpea sprouts [soluble]
- Tblspoon of natural peanut butter [insoluble]

MEAL 5:
- Extra large serving of steamed veggies (cabbage, broccoli, bok choy, green beans, asparagus, cauliflower, garlic, mushroom, etc) [soluble]
- 1 small baked sweet potato [soluble + insoluble]

MEAL 6:
- tspoon of ANPB [insoluble]
- tblspoon of ground flax [insoluble]

A few questions:
- Does this sound like too much fibre?
- If so, should I be reducing soluble or insoluble fibre to help relieve my problem stated in the first post?
- Fruit and veggies contain both soluble AND insoluble fibre, right? (I leave the skin on)

Lol, I love my veggies :chomp:

Digestive issues are difficult to tackle as there are a variety of symptoms that could easily be misdiagonsed.
This is actually quite tricky esp after reading this:

"I often go 3 - 4 times before my workout and sometimes there are loose stools. I also find that for the rest of the day, I don't need to go at all (only for #1)."

Irritable Bowel Syndrom (IBS) comes to my mind - especially with the inconsistencies of the stools and the irregularities of the visit.
Allergies to certain food is a possibility and this connects to the IBS. You may not be lactose intolerant as MikeMartial suggested however you could be allergic to certain carbohydrates such as wheat or gluten or even certain fibres.

When I was on creatine I did however found that I would get diarrhea. I'm not sure whether it's directly responsible for it in your case though. It may.

Thing is, I do believe that it is what you put in your body that is causing this frequent + irregular bowel movements and I'm not even going to go on about stress.

My only recommendation is that, you live in Australia and there are plenty of Naturopaths and Homeopaths available. When I lived there, they cured and satisfied alot of my disgestive disorders, side-effects free too.
Take a visit to them and be open minded.
BTW many of the mainstream doctors medications I was prescribed with actually made the condition worst.

Okay, I will take a visit to a naturopath when I have time and see what they have to say.

Can anyone tell me whether the amount of fibre I'm eating is an excessive amount? I think I'll also gradually reduce my fibre intake like MM suggested, but I be looking to reduce soluble or insoluble fibre?

Hey when I used to live in Sydney, I go to the one at Glebe Point Rd...
Anyway, before you make any adjustments to your fibre dosage see the naturopaths first.
One advice though. Do get a good qualified and expereinced one.
Australian College of Natural Therapies (ACNT) is located in Sydney..their students clinic is at Glebe Point rd, however some of the staff there ie: Vice president are excellent individuals to consult as supposed to the students.

I'm in Perth so that info doesn't help me.

I'll search around for a local qualified naturopath. I've never experienced naturopathy before so I'll try to be open minded and not too sceptical about it.
