Anyone else got Hi-Def?

Bought a 42" plasma.... Hi-def channels are mind-blowing, but the other 95% of the channels are shit (in comparison).... plus you have to "stretch" or "zoom" the regular channels to fill the screen and that just distorts them... or leave'em as is and keep the gray bars on the side.... more crap.
Salesman told me that ALL channels will be converting to be hi-def by June 2007... BS or true? I shoulda done some research.
Was it worth the extra bucks?????????????????????? :sassy:

you should have waited until all the channels had converted. that way price would have been lower. June 2007 might be correct, depends on which stations you get.
By 2009 a federate mandate requires that all stations in the US be high def.

thats when im going to buy my next tv :)

Hi Def for me, it's orgasmic like Johnnycakes errrr... I mean pancakes

It won't happen in 07. They've been saying the same thing for many years and just keep upping the date.

Your TV may not be adjusted properly to view standard def channels. Although the HD will always look better than standard... When calibrating a HD channel, you can "oversaturate" the adjustments and still get an OK picture, but with standard channels, they won't look good.

I suggest buying a calibration DVD and running it with your set for optimum picture quality. They go for $20-$40. Well worth it, and they do sound as well for surround sound.

Also, play around with the stretch modes on your TV AND the cable or sat receiver. One may be better than the other for stretching the pic and you can stick with that.

One more... make sure your TV and box are properly set to the HD signal you're getting. 720p 1080i, 1080p etc...

I have a sony 46 inche Bravi Lcd I love high def and blue ray movies look sick on it

Definately tweak the equipment (i.e. right display mode, right streach mode). Also, a lot of ordinary DVD players with component outputs can interpolate and boost the resolution of DVD's too.

High def is the p0wn.
