I noticed today that people were looking at me like a freak when I was doing deadlifts at 24 hour fitness. Granted I do not have an impressive physique these days, and was only working with 295 (slowly working up every week), however I have never seen anyone else do deadlifts so far since working out again. Do you think they were just tring to figure out what the fuck I was doing?

I get stars too on upper body days as I only do 1-2 real working sets and only do dumbell work other than skull crushers. It is start to make me paranoid because there will be 2-3 guys watching me by my 2nd or 3rd set. When I was a bodybuilder and used to lift heavy weights I was used to it, but not now. Why are people looking at me? WTF?

Try doing Zurcher's (sp?) and Hack Squats in the gym. People love watching that.

Actually I see other guys doing hacks. I've seen two other guys doing squats together once and no one deadlift. Currently my lower body lifts consist only of squats, deads, and stiff legged deads.

I've seen people look @ me doing SLDLs too - like WTF is she doing??

Yeah when I deadlift people tend to look but not many chicks rep out 225+ :)

Also when ever I do rack chins people look at me funny. Oh and there is this one hammer strength for legs that hits the hams and glutes . You I have to climb up to get on it I am like the only person that uses it for more then just a towel rack.

When I do snatches or power cleans I always hear people mumbling "my god, he's going to hurt himself" "What the hell is he doing" and I love every second of it.. I've also started doing one armed snatches with the barbell and I've really been getting some stares.. I can't wait until I can do a one armed snatch with 135!!

People are looking because they only wish they could workout with such intensity.. they justify the fact that they cannot perform the exercise you are doing with a thought of you looking ridiculous.. :) Enjoy the feeling!

There was a guy doing that in my gym recently - and let's just say.....there's NOT enough room to do them.....our gym is very very crowded & there's barely enough space to do flyes on a bench & drop them on the floor.....

We were looking @ him cuz he was nutz to do that in such a small place.....

I've gotten the most stares when I used bands for presses. Had a few people ask about the OH presses I was doing. The best was one of these 2 young guys who kept asking me all abotu my leg training and pretty much dumped his trainign buddy asking to train w/ me on my next leg day.

haha.. Olympic lifts aren't exactly the safest exercises to be doing in a crowded room..

I also get a kick out of watching people look at me when I do farmer's walk around the gym.. I've busted out laughing and dropped the weight numerous times just by looking at some of the looks on the obese fat women's faces just getting out of the spinning classes! They'll open up the door and look at me with the look like they are standing on the train tracks and a train is coming at them 100mph.. lol..

The gym where I train is 30,000 square foot and I still have to move equipment around to have enough room to do them.. hell, it's a workout just moving the damn leg press machine 5 feet (especially when fat boy just finished and still has both sides loaded up with 8 45s on each side after doing his 3 sets of 10 of quarter reps)

haha, speaking of that.. When I used to work at the gym, lemme tell you guys, it is a WORKOUT within itself just going around and putting all the weights in the correct places..

But yeah it's tough working out in a crowded gym, although if you can catch it at a good time you can get some serious super sets in and really get a kick ass workout in in less than 30 minutes!

LOL There was a guy doing Farmer's walks recently holding a 45lb plate in each hand......he had to bob & weave to get around everyone.....

That was another one I did - farmers walk but on my toes for calves. Walkign around obstacles and dont' get in my way cuz I'll run you over.

LOL I did that too after reading about you doing it. Just made me think I haven't done it in a long time my new gym has a much better selection of diffrent hammer strenghs for calf.

Trying out different gyms near by, and quickly realized I'm the only 17 year old doing dead lifts and squats.

Nah, scratch that, I'm the only freakin PERSON doing them.

I haven't done anything calves in a while - the tendons that tie in my knee have just been having a life of their own w/ various crampign and pains the last couple months. Maybe after new yrs :)

Good stories. Still it is making me a little paranoid. It will probably get worse as I add weights. I dread the day when one of the little skinny trainers comes over to tell me a movement I am doing is bad for my back.

I get stared at alot. But usually because I'm doing something stupid. Once I tried to do a chest exercise with pulleys and had too much weight. To make a long story short the weight pulled me backwards and made me do a backwards summersault over a bench. I was all sprawled out on the floor looking like a douche bag. I had to leave because I couldn't stop laughing. I'm glad only 2 guys saw it.

About a year after I started training seriously I worked out at this fluff gym (my mother had bought me a one year membership there as a birthday gift) that was a couple stories tall. After a heavy legday I was trying to go down the stairs and my leg crampped up and I fell and rolled down the stairs and landed in front of a bunch of girls, including two really hot desk girls. They were running over to see if I was ok, and I was so embarassed, I remember saying "No I am ok, I just had a leg cramp and tripped.. I'll be ok.... thanks for the concern..." and I quickly dashed out to my car.

I dont realize that people stare... until I am reminded by my sister or my husband or my kids.

Take it as a compliment. :) I do!

I always have people looking at me when I work out. Of course there is this tiny woman training with me is putting 4 times as much weight on as I have when we do the same movements, must be because she has a smoking hot body. I was walking through a store with her and thinking all the guys were admiring my new jacket. Then as I walked away from her they stopped looking a me.
:santa:

LOL U are SUCH a doofus!

It's only my squats that ever attracted looks. I used to squat more than all but one or two of the guys in my old gym. 95% thought they were hardcore if they squatted 225 for 5.

i got hit on by a dude in the gym. about knocked his ass out...then i was strangely flattered. :worried:

but i get staired at all the time no matter what i do and i dont think im that big. i guess the others are all just small in comparison.

That could be it. I broke 225 x 5 my 2nd day back at a gym (after a month of doing dumbell squats with 50's at home). It must be the 255 x 5 I did yesterday as a fat, out of shape guy working out in a baggy t-shirt. The kiddies are feeling pathic now. I'm 224 at 16% bodyfat, so I can garantee you it is NOT my body that anyone is looking at.

i train at a commercial gym (bally's) and when I do hang clean and press or deadlifts, people will look at me in a curious fashion. not that these movements are out of the ordinary in the world of lifting, but in a bally's they are and especially when it's a female

really? i thought bally's was the place where serious lifters went. I mean they have so much different equipment there and such. I saw some huge bodybuilder-like dudes walking around at my local one.

This is funny as hell. I switched my membership from Golds to Planet fitness about 4 years ago..The first week at was at Planet a group of guys were deadlifting and then I helped spotted one of them on a squat. They were grunting and yelling which is no big deal.. very common at real gyms. anyway I went on to start hack squats and in the middle of it the manager walks over and wanted to know if they were disturbing me. lolololol.. I at first had no idea what he was talking about. lmao........

The old people that do cross word puzzles stare at me when I do Dead Lifts. The front desk woman looks at me thinking I'm bothering them but she won't say anything to me. I wait until she is gone and it is just me and the kid from the high school there, he played football. So I get real loud and grunt a lot. The old people finally figured out the times I come in and come in as I'm leaving or beforehand.

I'm glad, one old lady farted on me twice when I was doing Squats. I thought I was going to throw her through the window.

:lmao: how were you squating with her on your back?

She was in the Roman chair thing which is two feet infront of the Squat Rack. Apperntly front leg raises make granny squeeze one out. Nasty old Sea hag she be.

I was once told in a gym where I had trained for years (Golds in Princeton) that I was "making too much noise during my lifts and could I keep it down because it was disturbing the other members." Yea well, 225# deadlifts and 10 to 18 45# on the ALP will do that to a body. hehehehehhee

Dont train there anymore. But I have changed my technique to make a hissing sound when expelling air as too much energy is wasted passing air over your vocal chords and emitting sound. :qt:

majority of bodybuilders dont do too much in the way of deadlifting or clean and press. hell, I dont see many squatting in a power rack either. which is fine. to each his own. lol @ bally's being where the serious lifters go.
