Anybody work two jobs?

I work full time testing software and doing other entry level engineering things, I'm one year out of school so I don't get paid too much. In engineering, you got to pay your dues and gain experience before you get paid good. Bills, student loans and creditors are starting to catch up with me so I decided to look for a second, part time job. I'm gonna go with the Restaurant business 'cause I think thats a good way to work a few part time hours and make good money with tips. I have been a bus boy, bar back, host and waiter back when I was like 16-19 but not recently. I would really like to work the bar but I don't have any actual exprience as a bar tender so I will probably opt for waiting tables.

Anyways, anyone else doing the two job thing (or is it 1 job and a half)? How does it affect your training and personal life?

Since I'm going to give up my evenings and weekends, I want to work in a place with a fun setting, good looking waitresses and cool looking people (tons of places like that around here), possibly people I can hang out with and envite to hang out at my house after work. Anyone work at a fun place? If you work at a place with attractive people, do people hook up all the time?

Hi. I work nights 40+ hours a week at 4 different places. I take 18 hours of class a semester too! I have little social life. Paying dues now. must pay dues. must learn more. must make more money. must build a huge business

I almost had two jobs at the same time, but I dropped one, and now that I think of it, it had some potential to provide some nice petty cash in addition to the job I have now.

sa: waiting tables is def. the way to go, but be careful you don't wear yourself out! you wanna be alert for you day job, so be sure you keep it part time even though tips can be very tempting.....

and bartending is a good idea too.....bartending school is typically only 2 weeks, might be a nice investment

i served at 4 places. the nicest place was at keystone resort. two people could not eat for less than $35. it was very busy too. never made over $125 for breakfast/lunch.

i guess i dont have the thong lines to get me tips though. :)

ah, the alter known as tripleblonde has created an alter alter.

you know the funny thing crak? i had to say, "now tb, did you unknowlingly make an alter, because this girl sure sounds like your alter" and then i realized i really didn't.....a quick ip check will prove it, but she almost had me thinking she was my alter....

The only place I could be a bartender is in California where smoking is outlawed in bars. Damn, all the good jobs have some drawback to them.

Hmmm.... she isn't my alter! I can already see the accusation coming.

that made about as much sense as a tiger88 post except you spelled everything correctly.

I know bartenders out here that make mucho money.

Just have to learn how. :artist:

I do something similar to your regular job, and i took a second job a while back.. I did studio photography at "The Picture People." It was ok, nothing tough and it was like 95% women, 5% men working there. Like $8.00-9.00 an hour and they train you. If I had to get a second job it sure as hell would not be in the food service industry, I worked at Fridays for like a year as a bartender/server, I almost killed myself I hated that job so much.

I work two jobs and I have done this for over a year now. I work full time during the day at a Child Welfare Agency and i waitress at a Sports Bar/Restaurant two night pers week. AT first I thought Id do it just to make ends meet, but then it became fun and I really love the mindless job of waitressing. It's so easy and to walk out with cash in your pocket every shift is great. Without this 2nd job, Id never be able to afford my mortgage LOL Im also a divorced mother of one so the extra cash helps.

I used to work 2 jobs, one at the computer support services wing of my university being supervisor (which means i sat around the office telling people they suck half the time) and the other half i was running a side computer consulting business. Having two jobs means a lot more cash but also means you have to find a balance between the two, especially if one's a freelance job because you'll find yourself working for yourself at the same time you're working for someone else, like I'd check my consulting email and contact client's while at my CSS office. It'll also eventually burn you out if one's a full time job!

your schedule is what I'd be shooting for, nothing over 20 hours a week on the 2nd job for sure. The pocket change that you get in tips is what attracts me the most. It would help because I would use that for my impulse spending and purchasing of nik-naks through out the week, the nI could save my checks for the bills and other things. Sounds like you like it, thats a good sign.

Well, I just got hired to work at a Steak House with a bar. They are going to start me as a host because I don't have any recent restaurant experience, and that will give me a chance to pick up on the work flow before I can wait tables. They also told me they will give me the chance to bar tend, once I feel and show them I can handle it. So although I'll be hosting for a while, it sounds promising. I also saw a couple of cute chicks working there, so it might be fun. Wish me luck playas!

Sounds like you're off to a good start!

I work a few part time jobs. Usually it's 2 days of retail, then the rest is filled up with internet business I do from home. I'm also the one who does most of the housework and I'm a mom. I train 4-5 days a week and usually go out one night a week. I still have pleanty of time to do the things I like to do. I like diversity and would hate to work a regular 9-5 job.

When I got divorced back in 1997 I kept the house but had to work 2 jobs to keep it.....worked 8-5 at my job M-F and 11-4 on Sats(the one I just got laid off from) and 5:30 - 10 at the other job M-F and on Sundays.....so I worked all the time....

You don't want to do that.....not a good thing
