Any skiers or snowboarders here?

i've never been and I want to go sometime in Feb or March.. where is a nice, secluded place, near the mid west that I can visit?

I don't want to go where there are a shit load of college drunkards.. I've past those days!
 
Midwest? Isn't it pretty flat over there? There are some good spots in Idaho, Colorado of course. Washington and Oregon have got some nice spots as well.

where the hell are there mountains in the midwest lol

colorado, utah, cali (lake tahoe), vermont are the best bets for skiing. around new york / PA have a few ok mountains, nothing great

just watch out for trees

No love for Wyoming/Montana? It just depends on where you are at. If it is your first time you really don't need that much of a mountain because you will suck and any hill will be good enough. For a first time I would focus on something other than the mountain. Like value(no need to ski aspen), enviroment (if you are older then Red Lodge/Big Mountain types will be better than Breck/Mt Stowe), other things in area(you might as well double up on the trip since you will be sore and looking for something else to do)

Crystal Mt, WA
Stevens Pass, WA
Baker, WA
Whistler, BC

But if you've never been before, look for the place with the best bunny hill, and lodging. I hear Whisler is awesome, but lacking in beginner runs.
 
cockwork... along I-70 there are a ton of resorts just west of Denver, if you want to soak up the experience. Vail, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain... they're all along the I 70 corridor and can be a lot of fun. Breckenridge is a hell of a town, so is Vail!
 
If you want to see some crazy ass snow that time of year....Winter Park Colorado.

Fly into Denver and take the ski train right to Winter Park

There are places to ski in the Midwest, that's where I learned. Bittersweet in Otsego MI has about 20 runs/ lifts green to black.

Then of course when you want to get serious Colorado is great. Vail, Aspen, Durango...

agree and lots of great deals/packages if you are flexible with travel dates--and even w/spring break types vail is 5500 acres-

i would rather learn on colorado pow or courderoy than midwest ice and slush plus the instructors our here are world class...

yea, but i'm just a shill for colorado ski areas b/c the more tourists that vist and pay $85 per ticket helps them keeps the price for locals around $400 for a 5 mountain almost unlimited season pass.

Those bastages block out Vail on the best weekends though :( I wonder if the attached $40 buddy passes will work on blacked out days???
 
Dude, get out here to Utah. I live at the base of Big Cottonwood Canyon, which is where Solitude and brighton are. An extra 10 minuted gets you to Snowbird and Alta. I'll show you a good time. It's almost 70 degrees here today though. We usually have something on the mountains by now. I don't think the resorts will be able to open on Thanksgiving the way they normally do.

brighton is nice and cheap .. we usually hit up the canyons when we visit there..

There or swiss valley isn't bad.
 
I've only skiied on the East Coast, so I can't comment on the West's resorts....but if you come out East to ski, you'd better be able to ski on ice.....

Brighton is pretty inexpensive and it has good snowboarding terrain. I like Solitude because there are never lines and you buy your ticket by the amount of runs instead of a day pass. If you don't use them all, they transfer.
