Anthony Clark and the BENCH PRESS

Came across this in an old article I had assigned, Mr. Clarks accomplishments on the bench are simply incredible:

In 1983, his first record was set at the tender age of 15 - 370 (how much were you benching at 15?). Could he possibly know he would eventually be good for double this? Then at age 16, he did 440. At 17, he set a high school record at 520. At 18 he did 600 (almost 100-pound jumps up to age 18 - whoo!), at 19 he hit 612, at 22 he did 650, 23 he did 675, did 700 at 24, 720 at 25, and at 26, he did 735. End of story? Just taking a breath...:)

He then he went on to do 748 and 750 in Texas at the Great Bench Press of America Meet. He also attempted 800 here; He had a whopping 14 attempts at 800 (a little tough on the wrists!) and then in 96 he hit both 770 and 780 at the Mr. Olympia and then 785!

At the Arnold Classic he got the whites for the controversial 800-pound bench in 1997!

A simply amazing career! Not currently competing but worth a salute!!! (and his 1,100-pound squats aint too shabby either..)

how much did he weigh when he benched 370 @ 15 y/o? i'm very interested in bettering this.

he's a huge, strong mofo. i heard he squat 1100 unofficially somewhere

Im sure most of the population has never even benched a quarter of what he did in 97 (800) (not people on this board.. but general population)

Simply amazing.....

Wow. That would piss me off. I would scratch it too, because it would bug me every day that I may not have really gotten it myself. But still...

any idea how much he weighed when he hit 370 at 15 y/o?

the 1,100 squat was done in competition and got the white lights but when Anthony reviewed the video himself he saw that a spotter touched the bar during the ascent and he scratched the lift off of the record books himself. Big man.

Takes a hell of a man to do that.

Some additional stats:

First teen to Bench Press 600 pounds 1986

A 1025 pound squat 1988

First man to reverse grip ench press 700 pounds 1992

First man to bench press over 700 pounds

800 pound bench press record at the Arnold Classic 1997

1031 pound squat

771 Deadlift

World record powerlifting total of 2600 pounds

He has successfully benched 700 pounds or greater 17 times in competition

Amazing. Anyone remember Dr. Fred Hatfield? He is probably the best squatter of all time. I love his books!!!

i love "Dr. Squat"....... i just love his dual sided nature....... most people are one or the other, a great lifter or a doctor..... he is both.

AC's site is down, so i can't ask him myself

hi this is my first post but I had to schime in on this post
his whole family is huge. I talk to of his brothers ( larry and John) all the time (good people). both are 500lb+ bench pressers. since I started lifting years ago and no one gives me better advice than larry clark :) made my squat go up by 2 plates each side in month by following what he showed me. :)
