AnimalMass Benches 500!

Matt hit a super clean 500 lb Bench today. It was freaking awesome. Definately had more in him. Bastard finally beat his little brother. His previous max was 425 but he did it for a triple twice in Nazereth. Couldn't touch 405, 430 or 455. Then he touched and blew up 470. At that point we knew he had 500 in him. Then the bastard touched 500 and rocked it. Weighed in at 242 also that's double BW. Bastard...

Good job Matt-

I would say the training you've been doing is working!

Congrats Again!

PS. How much do you feel you're getting out of a shirt now?
My buddies that went with me to Eufala couldnt believe that I was getting 100lbs out of my shirt!

Thanks guys!

Well, the most I've ever benched raw is 320. I'm sure I could do more than that, but I don't know if I could bench 365. So I'm getting closer to 200 lbs out of my shirt.

I did 315 raw for three last week and it damn near killed me.

Everything felt good today. Went really well.

Also,

Just wanted to thank Mule and BigWhitey, McVicar, Fields, Stan, and all the other Militia Guys that helped me with my setup/ technique! It has made an enormous difference.

Also, thanks so much to my crew! DG21 especially for pushing me past what I would have ever thought possible, and of course KG18, Hannibal, Genemachine, and MjayM for pushing me in the race to 500. It s the competition and camraderie that make this all worth it.

And KG18, I'm coming after your ass. (In the bench of course - I'll never pull 800 you f'n monster!)

Am I getting this right... the most you benched raw is 320 and when you put on a shirt you got it up 500?

He's was using an old Inzer DD

We call it Lazerus. BTW, I really like Karin's shirts better, but mine is busted and doesn't fit right now and needs to go back for some alterations.

So I was just using what we had.

ps - Bob, thanks for the compliment! You have no idea how much you and Dave in your writings and trainnig journals and everything else at Elitefts.com have helped me out.

You'll definately hit it Matt. In all honesty, I really believe you're stronger than me, but that you just haven't learned the shirt yet.

I've been in an openback denim for over 2 years now, so I'm starting to get the hang of the shirts and just how tight they can be.

Dave is doing the same thing. I'm not knowcking him at all - I know he's alot stronger than he was last year at this time (when he benched 500)- but 200lbs stronger? I doubt it. He's more like 100-150lbs stronger and he's really learned how to use a shirt, and how tight it can be - which shows in that he busts one every time he puts one on.

AnimalMass

Did you say I bust a shirt every time I put one on? I busted my first shirt last weekend. Not sure where that came from?

That was Reynolds exaggeration. Sorry man. What I mean is that it has become more frequent for you to pop seams here and there on shirts, which is evident that you are wearing them tight enough and fitted better these days.

I didn't mean all-out blowing like you did a few weekends ago.

AnimalMass

Blowing shirts means you're pushing your shirt work to the max. That's a good thing... The negative is that it's a fine line and shirts can become expensive.

I think all of you guys have come a long way. Everyone seems to be learning how to use their shirts to the best advantage. Keep pushing the limits.

Curtis, I thought you said that those 500lb benches didn't touch. If they didn't touch (and pause), they didn't count.

Maybe I misunderstood your post at Tommy's, but I thought that was what you said.

AnimalMass

oh and by the way...i did admit that i didn't get those to touch but in two weeks, like i told tommy, they will touch. thanks again. tb

I think the carryover some people get can be a little misleading. If you want a big shirted bench, you train in your shirt and put a big emphasis on lockout. This will make your shirted bench go up, but doesn't mean your RAW bench will go up. In some cases your RAW bench can go down as your shirted bench goes up.

If Matt wanted to train his RAW bench he would surely be able to do over 405, but his all important shirted bench might not be as high.

I do think it's a good idea to emphasis your RAW bench during times when you don't have a meet coming up, so the difference doesn't get too big.
