And the deadlift rises...

b fold the truth

Set a new PR last night. I am here in Chattanooga training with Night Fly this week. I did a RAW (no belt, no suit, no straps) 650. It felt easier than the 585 did...but my mind doesn't get into it till I get heavy.

I felt like 665 or 675 MIGHT have went...but you never know till you put it on the bar and go for it...I still want 700 by Jan/Feb 2003.

My deadlift keeps going up as I keep doing the following:
box squats
pull throughs
reverse hypers
band ham curls
heavy standing abs

I really think that those exercises should be a part of every person's routine (I have to sub the band ham curls for glute ham raises)...especially if they are wishing to increase their squat and/or deadlift.

I also saw Night Fly doing deadlifts last night...with PERFECT form. I've never seen anyone with such perfect deadlift form...all hip movement. Her shins were nearly completely vertical when she was pulling...amazing. The perfect form is helping her strength a lot too...

Holy crap, I'm still struggling to get to 600. Thats some serious weight bro, good job. What's NF pulling now?

I saw her pull a super easy 315 last time I was here. Last night she did 5x5 with :
225, 250, 250, 250, 275

I think she could have got 8 or so with the 275...

nice! 700 will be yours in no time... if you can get it off the floor, you know you'll be able to lock it out (you locked out 880 you crazy bastard).

I gotta start doing pullthroughs again. so i can catch up

Thanks all. Once I broke the 650 from the floor....it shot up. Time to add bands maybe...

or add more weight and deadlift 700 in a few weeks!.

actually deadlifts w/ bands are great.
I used double light bands on each side of the bar, and secured them with a 100lb dumbell and a 90 lb dumbell for each band....
on my short body, it added probably about 100+ lbs to the lockout.
SO you could probably go with average bands doubled, and see how you like those.

Maybe so...

At nationals I will have to deadlift 500 for max reps in 60 seconds:(

B True

you'll do fine... just for good measure, throw in a clean and jerk w/ 500 lbs mid way through to show off. How many reps are you aiming for?

I'd like to get 10+ reps.

B True

VERY RARELY!!!!

I will sometimes do a light set of 275-405 for a few reps...butt to the floor...after GM's or box squats. They just don't build the deadlift like box squats do...

awww -

Today is my fun day in my training split, its when I can do anything I want. I normally do snatches, push presses, shiudlers and arms

But I might try and max out on deadlifts :)
I should be able to get 315, since I can almost full squat that for sets and reps.

But I'll be doing it Olympic Lifter style :nerd:

AT the very least it will fire up my CNS for the narrow grip snatches afterwards , Renegade style :D

bfold,
imo, might just be my high rep muscles, but u should be able to punk more than 10 with 500 with a belt and all.
i got faith in you bro

Thanks man...I get to wear straps and a belt too...

Just sounds like pain. I'll give it a whirl about 8 weeks out.

Congratulations!!!

I think pulling 700lbs is a realistic goal for starting 2003. Heck, aim for 705lbs. All I can say is practice:

Squats
Barbell Rows
Chins
Heavy Shrugs

What is your strongest part of the lift. I know that a lot of guys explode off the floor, but they run into problems when finishing the movement. Others rely totally on back power. What kind of stance do you use?

Had a great workout! All my weights went up and I got all my rep targets - sweet!

Anyway I did some heavy snatches and power cleans first up.

I then tried the deadlift - I did singles going up in weight. I did it kinda like a slow clean pull, bar close to shins. Pulling over the knee, keeping it close to the body, lowering it the same way.

I did 315 no probs! Lifted it in 1 sec, lowered it under control in 5 secs. Probably could have done 3 reps too. While it wasn't hard, its wasn't easy either. Definitely a new thing to be holding that kinda weight in my hands. Strange sensation, like someone turned up the gravity 10 times!

I know its not a lot comapred to you guys and especially the females, but I've only been training for 3 months so far in a proper gym with heavy weights, up to then I had been training at home for 3-4 months using bodyweight stuff and my single dumbell set :)

Consider that I struggled with half that weight 2 months ago, my organism strength is definitely on the rise! I'm really surprised, I always thought I had shitty leverage and absolute strength!

I'm gonna try for 405 lbs in a months time, since I'll be full squatting at least 315lbs by then. I'll video tape it too.

I reckon I can get 500lbs or more by the end of the year, since I'm shooting to full squat 405lbs or more by Christmas. All I've been doing is full back and front squats, Olympic lifts, glute ham raises, sideway lunges and Romanian Deadlifts. I guess the Yates rows help as well.

But I reckon its the heavy Power cleans, clean pulls and jumping deadlifts that have improved my pulling power the most. If you can propel 155 lbs fast enough for your feet to leave the ground, then doing 2-3 times that slowly is a piece of cake.

Anyway Thanks BFold for inspiring me to even attmept it :)
Now you've done it! I wasn't even gonna bother with Deadlift maxes, but I'm I think I'm gonna come chase the numbers you guys are doing :D

The first 2-3" were my slowest...then it flew up easily. My stance is shoulder width or so...

Thats a great deadlift b fold!

What about sled dragging? Do you think this helps deadlifts too?

I have actually been doing some sled dragging once a week (after DE lower day). I haven't been doing it slowly like the WSB crew does...but just as a walk. I had been doing them just to improve my cardio a bit...

Congrats babe! He talks about it like it was the hardest thing he had ever done...but I swear he made it look so easily. He definitely could have pulled more.

Everytime we have done deadlifts together in Chattanooga, he would get to 615 and stop....and then say, "I think I could have pulled 650...maybe." I finally told him the other day...I said...you have been talking about this for too long. Why don't you do something about it now? :) And...he sure did!

He is motivating to watch....even when he barks! ;)

Sounds like you have stong hips and weaker legs/lower back, focus on those and off the floor will be easy.

Night Fly: Thanks Belle...you don't know how much it means to me to hear you say that.

To all the guys out there...having a strong support group (family and loved ones...like Night Fly) makes all of this A LOT easier. Especially when they can accept the fact that you like to growl, bark, snarl, cough, burp, fart, etc...before you lift.

DBCooper: Maybe...but probably not. It wasn't slow off the floor...it was just the slowes part of the lift. It took about 1-1.5 seconds from start to lockout...maybe. I am very explosive in my lifts....but I either get it or I don't...
