An Open Letter To Those Born Before 1978 (the rest of you will appreciate this, too)

Re: An Open Letter To Those Born Before 1978 (the rest of you will appreciate this, t

And when you finally did get a cordless phone the was a damn antenna on it, and it always broke. You would actually have to order a new antenna. VCR's, first Beta, then VHS. Either way, you had to drive to the store to rent one, and if you lost it it cost you like $100 to replace it. Movies stayed in theatres for months and then took like a year to come out on tape. Fucking casette tapes. Damn things would get all fucked up and you'd have to take a pencil to wind the ribbon back in.

When I was a child we didn't have telephones, we didn't have horseless cars, we didnt have water in the house except for the kitchen pump, and I never had a hot bath my whole childhood. When the sun went down we had enough whale or coal oil for a few hours, then it was time for bed. We used hot bricks in our beds to keep warm at night, and all the clothes I had my mother made for me. A toothache meant a tooth pulling, and airconditioning was the big willows planted next to the house to keep the sun off the roof. And we really did walk 3 miles one-way to school.

Course my mother's generation had it harder, or so she likes to tell me.

Hell, I want to buy a TRS-80 model I level II off ebay now purely for sentimental purposes.
