thanks for the suggestions guys... I've sent out many inquiry letters and calls. Bounty Hunter... that sounds cool.

exactly what happened to me. There're few jobs as an attorney available. And those I could find were paying around 20K a year. What a joke, especially when you spent over 4 years including bar school.

Dunno about LAPD. What are you looking for ? Patrol officer ? Detective ? SWAT ?

One thing: you better like it or you'll find that shit borring as hell.

I'd hope to get into being a detective... but I'd still have to put some time into the police officer patrol thing, I could deal with it, for sheezy! :)

Depends on the Police dep.

Some like the FBI and NYPD (I think) allow you to go directly as a detective if you already have a degree in law or criminology. Others will ask you to serve at least 4-5 years as a patrol officer.

LAPD requires an 11 month probationary period, after which you may apply to take the detectives test... I imagine there is a long line...

11 months thats nothing compared to most Police dep. BTW it doesnt matter how many guys are waiting in the line. Just be sure to be the best. Having a degree, being a good shooter, good shape and many other things can help you.

Look into the Secret Service as well. They are taking on a lot of responsibility with all this Homeland Securty shit. My boy (with a degree in criminal justice) just got hired a few weeks ago, after only applying in june or so.

He had to take about 3 different test (all were 'easy, common sense shit' according to him, and you have to pass a lie detector test and background investigation.

The plus of something like that is that you can travel to just about anywhere you want to go on their dime....

I knew it. Musclebrains made a post a few months ago about how alot of his clients were lawyers who couldn't stand their jobs.

What is your bachelors in? Is it criminal justice? perhaps you can get a graduate degree in something else.

I thought it took about 10 years of patrol work to get into any investigative/detective squad.

I looked at the LAPD site and you can apply for detective test and take it after your probationary period... of 11 months.

My degree is in criminal justice, and I shot the bank on my criminal law/procedure classes in law school.
