Is it theoretically possible to make your own ammo from scratch? I'm assuming it would take some serious equipment and access to not necessarily common materials. Plus I'm sure there's some legal issues.

Yup. Its like an 7mm rum. It has additional case capacity over the good ol 7mm. They shoot nice, lotsa velocity. Good flat shooter. I had an old ruger 77 in 7mm stw. Sold it to a close friend who still shoots it.
