American moral decline since 19 aught 4.

Why exactly is america considered to be in moral decline (this is taken from statements made my Frackal & jonnyjuice in another thread). By 'why' i mean the acts that are making us bad, I don't think anyone knows the motivation. Is it the music, the desensitization to violence & obscenity, or what.

I don't mind the 'moral decline', i've never known any other culture. I guess i could move to one of the mid east cultures, where morality is realllll important & see if i like that :worried:

Incidentally the whole issue reminds me of a cartoon i read in mad magazine 10 years ago. It was one of those 'when you grow up' multi cartoons. one of them was

'when you grow up, you will have kids who listen to music that shocks even your generation, who listened to the beastie boys'.

Songs like kim by eminem or trigger happy jack by poe are much worse than anything the beastie boys ever did. Wonder what music will shock the new generation.

America is definitely not in a state of extreme moral decline in comparison to other nations; however, on an absolute scale, or in comparison to its old self, I'd have to agree with it being in a state of moral decline.

I'm not looking to argue this point btw, just stating my opinion and willing to field a few questions... don't want to do ANOTHER thread about why I think X is wrong and why I'm right and someone else is not. =)

Basically, if you look at 21st century USA and compare it to 1980s USA or 1880s USA, I think you'd notice a severe difference. We definitely live in a more liberal nation where profanity on network TV, graphic public displays of affection, and going to the beach in dental floss or less are perfectly acceptable. Think of how kids are growing up. Judging by what I see on the news or see in the street, it's a miracle I don't have a criminal record.

I'm almost afraid to bring children into this world in some years. My only peace of mind would be the fact that I'd teach them from an early age to be disgusted by the norm and try to rise above it.
