i did squats with the bar yesterday (yay!) and my bum is totally stiff (yay!)... my question is... the bar was resting on my shoulders of course but it bruised that spine bone right at the bottom of my neck from resting there.... did i do something wrong?

We wrap a towel around the bar there, but when you go heavy, you will still get a little mark there, but you will grow use to it, kinda like a calous(sp?) there :)

Our gym has the bar cover pads.....is soooo nice.....of course some prefer not to use it, but I am kind of bony in that area and need the extra padding......does your gym have those?? They are held on to the bar by velcro????

you go girl with the squats...

try this... (with the towel) put the bar down a little further on your back so it kinda rests more on your shoulder blades rather than on your neck... you'll find you can do better form with that... make sure you use your arms (wide grip) to support the weight a little too..

On the neck? Yikes!! I agree with Phem. When your start developing that natural "perfect" posture, your shoulder will pull themselves back and down a bit, but until you get there make an effort to pull shoulders back and down. Lower the bar just below the trapezius. A padded bar is nice, but once you start getting used to a full plate or two unwrap. By this time, your back muscles will be so big that you won't need the towel.

good luck

i use a towel or a pad, and i do have some traps, and every time i get a line accross the top of my back of small red like bruises! i try and put the bar a little more back, soemtimes helps.
