ok so most of you know i used to play semi-pro football and i severely broke my ankle which ended my military career about 5 years ago. well my team started practicing for the upcoming 2008 season. i went to the practice and decided since i am going to the police academy on October 1st and i need to get my cardio going or im gonna look like an ass when i get there. so i decide to go to the practice since the first few are mostly sprints and laps and such it will help me get back in shape. towards the end of practice they decide to have the recievers go out for passes. i played linebacker/defensive end to help cover the middle and rush the QB. well one of the recievers is also a QB and went out for a 40 yard pass and instead of jogging back with the ball he launches it to me from 40 yards out. i lose it in the lights and it nails me on my right hand and brakes my ring finger chipping a bone in the middle joint.

am i a dumb ass for playing football again? i still am thinking about playing this upcoming season. my ankle felt great during practice i just cant believe i broke another bone on the first day. i have the worsed luck.

Well you are a dumb ass but that's another thing all together.LOL

In this case you didn't do anything wrong. You could have done that to your finger falling down the stairs. Besides catching a ball and running some drills isn't exactly playing again.

Cheers,
Scotsman

I went to the football stadium tonight to do my running and they had a contraption for running backs to explode thru. 5 sets of tackling dummies suspended by springs.. I had fun exploding thru them, but I can tell that if I kick it into high gear, I'll probably pull something.

for some reason i just cant stop. i mainly want to do it for my 9 year old son. i want him to see his dad play the same sports he plays and not be one of those dads that talk about when they played. i want to stay active and this is what i love to do. this year ill be playing defense. when i broke my ankle i was offensive tackle. i put on over 30 lbs to play the O-Line. now i want to stay around 265-275 and play MLB or DE.

Are you following your dream? Good luck, the finger will mend :)

i wouldnt say following a dream so much, i just want to play. some friends i have that are the same age as me seem to already have given up on living life and all they do is work. when i play football my whole family gets involved. my son is the ball boy and my wife helps out with designing the teams uniforms and t-shirts.

i just dont want to get old and look back and say "i wish i did" i want to be able to say "im glad i did" while i still have it in me.
