All I Can Think About Is 315!!!

You might want to mix it up a little. Throw in some decline bench with a decline flies, incline flies. Maybe your hands need moved out or in a little on the bar. I would definately agree with the bro who stated work on back. Thats my best feature and I bench about double my weight most of the time. When I lift real heavy my lats are as sore as my chest. Good luck Satch.

I DONT GET INVOLVED IN CAT FIGHTS ANYMORE..

MY ROUTINE FOR CHEST:

flat bench press...
start with 2 light sets warm up.
then... lift as the heaviest weight for 4-6 reps.
same thing for second set.
take some weight off, and do another 2 sets til failure.

move over to incline dumbel presses and repeat same structure as before.

Ok bro, its kind of "westside" of me, but...

MWF for 4-6 weeks.
Monday=5x5 type back day. BB Rows as your main lift
Wednesday=Bench Day*
Friday=Squat Day 5x5 style

*Bench day 1
Take that same weight that you have been getting for 6 reps and for 10sets of 3 (yes 10 sets) Control the weights, no cheating. You get all 10 sets you add weight next week. I add 10bs at a time.
CGBP 2x4-8
JM Press 2x4-8

*Bench day 2
5x5 Bench day using a weight slightly heavier than your 10x3 weight. Get 5x5 and you add 10lbs the next time.
CGBP 2x4-8
JM Press 2x4-8

DONT skimp on tris exercises they are AS important as the Bench.

Cycle these 3 times each (may work quicker) and the next bench day work up to a max it'll be 10-30 lbs more than it is today.
If you end up adding weight after 4/6 workouts thats about 20-40lbs on your 5x5. Now translate that to your max. :qt: Exactly

TRY THE DAMN THING SATCH!!! YOU'LL LOVE ME AFTER THIS ;)

thats pretty much a WSB routine...
i would add this the 10 sets of 3 should be around 50-60% of your 1 RM and done for speed i.e no more than 60 seconds rest between sets
i would also drop any direct delt pressing and only do rear and side laterals for the time being otherwise youll most likely overtrain your delts

DIAMOND bro..

good stuff bro.
ill most def give it a shot.

what do you guys feel about the decline bench press?

Usually by the time i do inclines & flat (barbell or dumbell) I dont have the strength i feel i need for declines too. Seems like overkill. i think on the days i do declines im just gonna do Declines & inclines. Flat bench targets your mid to lower pec antway, so doing both declines and flat bench would be repetitive...

315lbs!!! You can do it bro!!!! I remember hitting 315lbs before I hit any gear or PH I was 19 years old!! now I'm 22 putting up 405lbs!!! dont worry trust me is a Mental thing. Give you hint let your training partner rack the weights up for you!!! And just sit there and lift. Best way to Max out I say do 135x10-15 reps(warm up) then 225x10 reps next warm up, Then 275x1 time and then straight to 315lbs you should be able to get it with no problem good luck bro!!!

I like doing them, but I use a wider grip and drop the bar to the middle of my chest and not the top of my chest so you get more of a stretch at the bottom. Use less weight and it should work out for ya. I'm all for hitting the muscle at different angles for variety.

Satch i think decline is a great exercise for those that use a big arch..meaning if you use a powerlifting set up then declines are a great assist..if not i wouldnt worry too much about doing them although they can be added..i just dont believe you need flat/incline/decline all in the same workout

lets leave all the catfight bs behind fella.

I have a very big arch in my back when i press. I was taught by a powerlifter when I originally started using free weights. I never do declines but woudl you recommend them? I've been meaning to start a thread questioning if declines should be done but havn't gotten aroudn to it. Thanks!

Metal Militia guys follow up their raw bench with close grip declines..all sets are done for 5 reps and they work their way up to a 5RM..they produce some crazy bench presses so they must be onto something

close grip? I've always done wide grip on all kinds of bench. I'm starting to do closer grip beause my chest isn't proportional. I'll give that a try on my next becnh day! Thanks!

Chris

Oh yeah, U got that right, no Delt pressing in this routine.

My routine is kind of MM/WSBB, I love both, so...

I've always told wnt2bBeast that close grip benches bring out tricep/shoulder development , which is good for powerlifting technique. But he never listens :-)

A moderator who will remain nameless used the term "powerbuilder" :-) LMAO (sucking up to someone??) , but I haven't fully adopted powerlifting technique myself so I may have to stop laughing

Nothing to laugh at. Im all PowerBuilder. I think thats why I am so heavy :)

If you did 315 before roids at age 19, its genetic, not mental. I can put most guys to shame in the squat and they, in turn, can put me to shame on the bench press. It's genetic (i.e., gaining on my legs is easy). Same with dead lifts (I'll naturally put most guys to shame). Lower body on me is naturally gifted. I cannot do 315 bench press and I'm a lot bigger than satchboogie in his avatar -- ESPECIALLY assuming he, like everyone else, was pumped when he took the picture. My legs are big and strong (squats 405x7), my back is big(bent rows 225x8), my chest is decent but not very strong (bench 245x5).
But I will say to satchboogie this: It was because of this thread that I decided 405 was a mental barrier and after this current cycle (Syrus NPP @ 400-500mg/week) I went from squatting 315x9 (naturally) to 405x8 two w/o's ago. My lower back ached like a mofo; I wont go over 405 anytime soon.

Hope this is helpful.

I had such an easy time putting up big squats at a young age (18 YO/ 500 lbs) but when it came to bench I was horrible. Took me so long to finally get up there, my max was 465 but now I'm down below 400 but I am not playing ball anymore. It honestly took 5 years at school to get my bench that high, i rember though 315 was the hardest barrier to break by far!!

I am the same too, mostly lower body, squat 465 x 6(rock bottom raw) and deadlift 550 x 5(also raw), but for years couldnt bench anywhere near 315. My best now is 370x5, so its come up, but will never compete with my lower body
