I purchased all needed materials from beyond-a-century
ALA - ($16.50 for 50 grams - 33 cents a gram) (comes in double sealed bottle with 250mg serving spoon)
Cap-M-Quick device - ($10.20)
Cap-M-Quick Tamper - ($4.25)
Gel Capsules size 00 - ($11.20 - 750 count)
The "00" size capsules will hold 500mg of ALA if the product is tampered liberally. With a 50 gram order - it works out very nice because the way to measure is to just fill the caps and tamper and then repeat fill and tamper until they will not hold any more. The Cap-m-quick device holds 50 caps at a time so to do a 50 grams bottle will take two sessions.
I 1st did 50 caps - my second batch was then 10 caps at a time ( a real bitch). I did this to ascertain how many mg's per cap with some accuracy. Once done I came out with 100 caps exactly.
You can do two 50 cap batches per bottle ( just remember to tamper/ fill multiple times thus packing the ala in tightly allowing for more product).
1) ALA powder is yellowish in color with the consistency of powedered / sifted sugar.
2) Use a clean "smooth" surface under capsule making device, this will allow for any spilt ala to be recovered. I used enclosed scraper (plastic card) to reclaim all visable ala.
3) I wasted about 250mg of ala in the capsule making process.
4) Entire process takes about 25 minutes per 50 caps
5) ala was air exposed for about 15 minutes per 50 caps
6) I used an old Nutriteam ala jar to hold caps
Note: Old ala from nutriteam had an expiration date of September 2004 - Assuming Nutriteams caps and beyond-a-century's bulk ALA came from the same batch (highly doubtfull but allows us to make some conclusions). Because I air exposed my ala for 15 minutes during capping, I say take of six months until expiration - so in a nutshell, My home made caps will be OK until March 2004. At 3 grams a day (6 caps) I will be out 17 days, so I will not worry about hame capp'ed ala going bad.
Note: Note: Once you have cap-ping equiment, it's nice because you can cap anything, I made some ginger root caps to aid in protein digestion.
Beyond-a-century total shipping was only $4.75 (that also included 1 kilo l-glutamine, 1 kilo Ascorbic acid, 100 grams Quercitin, 100 grams chasteberry)
