After all these yrs my first abcess

RADAR

Well-known member
I just returned from the Dr today getting an abcess cut open on my forearm, it was almost the size of a Quarter proluding 1/4 inch up out of the skin, you will know when you have one, this is my first (after all these years..yeah!) My entire arm had swollen, turned red and was throbbing like a bitch!

I told him a wasp had bitten me at the races saturday next to the trash cans, he replied that folks don't realise that bites like that carry what the bug had been on (Rotten food, doggie doo...etc)
Goes to show stuff does happen sometime no matter how careful you are.
Even to us vets!
this was my 4th inj out of that vial so its not the gear.

Hey Radar does the area hurt? I have a possible one that my bro plans on draining, but wanna make sure before he gets down to it. My arm is red and there's a long protrusion on the delt, but it really doesn't hurt unless you squeeze at it.

My whole forarm turned red and was hot you WILL Know when it develops into an abcess,i have alot of those that you just described grab a hot washcloth and massage the area ,keep heating & doing this for at least 10-15 minutes this will help break up the oil.

i'm not happy about your pain or anything but i'm glad to read this. I've seen so many people posting about abcesses that I was starting to think they pop up like zits on a test cycle. It's good to know you can go [how many years radar been doing this!?!?] without getting one if you're careful. Well, speedy recovery and a happy thanksgiving to you.

4th inject from that vial? Where were the other 3? Could still be the gear, and that area is just more sensitive than the others.

Thanks for sharing the info. Have a good Thanksgiving!

Radar... How long did it take to form into an abcess? I mean, were there signs of infection before you decided to go to the Doc? I had an infection after shooting some UG Prop in my Delt a few years back..... At first, it just felt like a painful Prop injection..... After like a week, my delt grew in size, and got really red..... I then began getting red rash-like streeks from my shoulder running down my arm.... I never had that before, and knew something was wrong.... I went to the ER, and told them I was shooting B-12 shots..... The Doc kinda laughed at me, told me I should prob stop doing that, and gave me IV anti-biotics.....

I guess my question is: How do they determine whether the site needs to be drained, or they can just give anti-biotics? I brought a small bag of clothes to the ER with me, thinking I was gonna be staying for a few days, but I was only there for about 3hrs total..... Have any ideas on this question?

I'll try to translate: " Just give me a call. I'll be out of town and satch can ALWAYS find me :) "

The " after the I and the vv, which should have been ll made it look clear. ;)

Don't worry Indy, I seem to type the same way every once and a while. Normally following several shots of something... :verygood:

Down here in Florida where we do alot of hog hunting {catching wild hogs alive using bulldogs and baydogs} my dogs would get abcesses from getting hooked or jabbed with a tusk....I would inject a full syringe of Peroxide into the abcess and they would usually rupture and then heal...I don't think I'm man enuff to do it to myself!!

I had that also, i believe its the BA ,my arm got red & swollen some but i let it run its course and it finally went away.
like i said after years of experience you will know then you have a problem..
Mine was a smooth inj.then the area got red. some always do, i felt a lump massaged it like at the others i did 2 days later it had gotten a tad larger so i soaked it in hot water for an hour massaging it.
the typical redness developed along with the heat that cames with most injs. then my forearm started swelling ,no biggie ,its done that before, but this time it kept spreading and the lump grew it was like you cut a golf ball into thats how big the area got ,now lay that golf boll half on the forearm thats how big the thing got in a matter of 6 days. since then i have shot 2 more from that same vial a total of 5 succesful injs. so what ever went wrong is beyond me. i did everything in the same order that i normally do.

Draining is no biggie ,the needle, that is the worst they shoot right thru the top to deaden the area, after 5 minutes the doc slices open the top (you can't feel it) presses around the area and lots of yellow puss comes out ,the area is dressed & wrapped .later some soreness sets in no pain med for this dude i have been thru hell & back this was a stroll thru the park. I forgot to mention this procedure will not leave a scar if you have a good Doctor.

But i did have a few beers that nite with a benzo to help me sleep!

So i hope this info helps alot of bros here just because you have a painful lump does not mean you have an abcess, neither does reddness down the arm area.

Today the swelling is down and i should be back training by mon after the holidays,

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Man, I feel for you. I had an abcess once on my left ass cheek. I had to have it lanced and drained then packed with sterile gauze packing. Every few days, for the first week, I had to go and have that gauze pulled out and repacked- talk about pain!! The infection was bad enough that he gave me two injections of some powerful antibiotic that first night I went in and put me on orals as well. I had a fever of 101 or so. After messing with this for over a month, it never would heal. I finally had to go in and have surgery, He went in and cut out all of the bad tissues and sutured me up. The surgery finally took care of the problem.

goes to show everybody that it can happen to the best and most experienced bros here on EF. even the most cautious. sorry to hear about the abcess radar.

Radar,
Thanks for sharing your experience with us all. It's invaluable to understand how an abcess forms, how to tell if it's really an abcess (the heat) and how they take care of it. If it's one of those things anyone can get at any time, we all should understand that and know how to tell when it's time to see the doctor. Now we know.

K to you.

P.S. Glad to hear it's healing and there will probably not be a scar...

Thank you that was the purpose of this thread, lits like standing in the street, it can happen to anyone, however i never thought it would "EVER" happen to me!

Damn Bro after all these years the odds finally turned against you. Just be thankful it was on the forearm and not somewhere else. Glad to hear you got it taken care off. Speedy recovery to you. Now I am debating taking my morning Test/EQ/Deca and Tbol cocktail. God it's good to be back on! :chomp: You need to get some TLC from a hot piece of ass to help with the healing process. Good luck too you!

Will RADAR's insurance cover a home call from a hot busty nurse?

I had my first abscess (after 6 years of regular injections) this past summer. A couple of days after a test shot, a big lump (about the size of an egg) appeared on my hip. I ended up needing it to be removed surgically and spent four days in the hospital. The surgeon later told me that massaging the area (which I didn't) is a bad idea when it's an abscess. Lets all the gunk excape and can potentially make things a lot worse.

Glad you're feeling better, RADAR.

Happy Thanksgiving Radar and dont forget to post those pics you talked about. I dont want to see them in a "Devels Rejects" kind of way, but since Ive never had an abscess yet, curiousity is getting the best of me.
Glad to know your healing!

Sorry bro, last post before Ambien carried me off to bed. If you ever need anything and cant find me, Satch can always reach me.

I hope you feel better. I had a few, do have an inkling of what may have caused it? Obvioulsly the needle - but what do you think contaminated it?
Just curious you being a well known vet, that something like this could happen to you too. I remember going to the Emergency room with a 104' Temp, and the nurse was saying loudly so everyone could hear "Don't you own a gym" I was so fucken embarrassed - I had four abcesses. I have tatoos designed to eventually cover the scars up. The Dr put a lot of gauze in each one cause he had to go so deep. When I wear a Tank top people always ask me what are those scars from. Anyway I hope you feel better Radar - I guess you need to stay off the Anti Anti Biotics for a little while until it heals.

If you inject gear and you drop the needle beforehand , do you throw it away or use it?

Haha. This brings back some memories. I had one in my quad, or one that was developing. It was my own fault. I was in a hurry and just wasn't being sterile. It was my left quad. It got swollen, red, and was warm to the touch. Now, I've had the swollen and red before, but the warmness kinda bothered me. This went on for about 3 days or so. I decided I either had an abcess forming, or a hematoma (sp). I always used to jack around and remove ingrown toenails, so I thought hmmmm, lets just see what this is. I took an inch an a half pin, and stuck it to the hilt in my quad, and pulled back. I sucked about 5ml's of pink, warm yellow redish goo out....the first time. I just about flipped out when I saw it coming out. I think I pulled about 3cc's more after that. The best part......I took pictures!! I still have them. I just squirted all the stuff I pulled out into a coffee mug. It's pretty damn gross/neato/cool. I'll post them up if anyone wants to see them. That same day after I did that, I went and did legs. Then straight to the doctor and told him I was shooting B-6. He gave me an anti-b and I was good to go. He told me that, since there was still a good bit of red/pink fluid there, that meant there was still blood flow and the abcess hadn't walled itself off yet. I'm pretty sure he thought I was crazy. LOL. What was kinda freaky was the syringe, when it was filled up with that stuff, was REALLY warm. Like warm to the touch, so I'm glad I did that in time.
