Radar... How long did it take to form into an abcess? I mean, were there signs of infection before you decided to go to the Doc? I had an infection after shooting some UG Prop in my Delt a few years back..... At first, it just felt like a painful Prop injection..... After like a week, my delt grew in size, and got really red..... I then began getting red rash-like streeks from my shoulder running down my arm.... I never had that before, and knew something was wrong.... I went to the ER, and told them I was shooting B-12 shots..... The Doc kinda laughed at me, told me I should prob stop doing that, and gave me IV anti-biotics.....
I guess my question is: How do they determine whether the site needs to be drained, or they can just give anti-biotics? I brought a small bag of clothes to the ER with me, thinking I was gonna be staying for a few days, but I was only there for about 3hrs total..... Have any ideas on this question?

I had that also, i believe its the BA ,my arm got red & swollen some but i let it run its course and it finally went away.
like i said after years of experience you will know then you have a problem..
Mine was a smooth inj.then the area got red. some always do, i felt a lump massaged it like at the others i did 2 days later it had gotten a tad larger so i soaked it in hot water for an hour massaging it.
the typical redness developed along with the heat that cames with most injs. then my forearm started swelling ,no biggie ,its done that before, but this time it kept spreading and the lump grew it was like you cut a golf ball into thats how big the area got ,now lay that golf boll half on the forearm thats how big the thing got in a matter of 6 days. since then i have shot 2 more from that same vial a total of 5 succesful injs. so what ever went wrong is beyond me. i did everything in the same order that i normally do.
Draining is no biggie ,the needle, that is the worst they shoot right thru the top to deaden the area, after 5 minutes the doc slices open the top (you can't feel it) presses around the area and lots of yellow puss comes out ,the area is dressed & wrapped .later some soreness sets in no pain med for this dude i have been thru hell & back this was a stroll thru the park. I forgot to mention this procedure will not leave a scar if you have a good Doctor.
But i did have a few beers that nite with a benzo to help me sleep!
So i hope this info helps alot of bros here just because you have a painful lump does not mean you have an abcess, neither does reddness down the arm area.
Today the swelling is down and i should be back training by mon after the holidays,
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
