AAS users that are Personal Trainers

GymIntensity

New member
Well, this question isn't specifically about AAS, but the other forums suck and I never get good responses, so im going to post here since this is the place I get sound advice from alot of knowledgeable bros.

I am wanting to get my certification in Personal Training. I dont know alot about the different types of certifications, and was wondering if anyone here is a personal trainer and/or if you know what the "better" certifications are. right now im looking into ACSM and ISSA, and I have also heard that ACE is popular. Just wondering what everyone suggests.

ace sucks

nasm, acsm, ncsa.

They're all worthless. Your success will largely be based on your personality and how capable you are of convincing potential clients that you will be able to help them achieve their fitness goals. The only people impressed by certifications are the people that don't realize many of them can be obtained by anyone with a 6th grade reading level after two 8 hr seminars or less. I've seen guys with Masters Degrees in exercise physiology that can't even perform a bench press properly. However, being able to put a few letters after your name as a disclaimer that you know wtf you are doing can't hurt. Why not just claim to have an ACE or ??? Nobodys gonna check up on you-and if they do fuck em-they'd be a pain in the ass client fersure.

The best certification I know of is the BC certification aka Big Cracker Certification. For $20 I'll make you a certificate on photoshop stating you are BC certified. You can claim it is the best certification that a pt can acquire. Why? Because BC says so!!! Other certifications are based on the same shit-Who says ACE is the best??? ACE does!!! ETC. They just try to make themselves seem like they're providing you with a degree from MIT or something so you'll piss away your cash on something you don't need.

Issa wasn't the greatest but it got me certified and able to work as a personal trainer in a gym and to start my own buisness. I don't work in that field any more( am a substance abuse counselor now). Using one of those will get your feet in the door, but if you want to look better on resume, certain Colleges offer programs for certification as well. Look in your local area for Colleges that offer the program. Hope the best for you.

VERY TRUE, i am an excerise science major, and 99% of people in my physiology, kinesiology, bio, and chem classes are all HUGE pussies.

Bro, seriously this is as retarded as going to bartender school to become a bartender. If you can't get your foot in the door as a bar back to learn the ropes-you suck.

Or have you ever seen the ad "Karate instructors wanted...No experience necessary"??? Would you pay a guy for lessons that went through this program to get his black belt??? lol People pay certified personal trainers that are often at lower levels of fitness than the clients themselves. What's up w/ that??

Grab a clipboard, a pen, and have biz cards printed up with your name and #. Voila-you are a trainer with the certification of your choosing!!! No need to go through the fancy shmancy certification bullshit-just claim to have one. IMNSHO even buying into the whole certification thing shows that you are just as naive as the people paying you to train them.

I wouldnt geyt certification unless I had a degree as a dietishin?? Because with most people the diet is 80% of thier problem

Are you a trainer? Did you get any certifications or degrees? I didn't say get certified and your all set. I just posted what I did to just get started working as a certified trainer. I didn't mention that I went to UMASS Boston to get my degree as nutritionist. I didn't mention that I worked out for almost 11 fucking years before I even began as a certified treainer. I didn't mention that all someone has to do is get some dome-ass certification, and they'll be making the big bucks as a trainer. That would have been nieve. Get all your fucking facts before you talk shit about someone you fucking retard!

Jesus Christ. I wasn't trying to insult you or talking shit. Ask anyone here-I was not fucking with you. If I was you and everyone else here would surely know it.

Maybe if you included that pertinent info I wouldn't have assumed that you may be uninformed-as many people are about the pt industry. I laugh my ass opff when guys say they're going to college to become a trainer. I was training people at age 19 and making decent cash doing it too. I had no formal education and I was making the same a guy 5 yrs older than me was doing the same thing. The difference? He had the letters BS after his name-which according to him made him Joe Weider-as he downs a 44 oz big gulp of Dr Pepper and eats 3 king size kit kats. As far as training himself went, I think he walked a lap around the gym once or twice a week. Then he'd bitch up a storm about me stealing his clients. lol

And now here comes the part where I'm being a dick, since you can't seem to tell the difference:

Yes I'm a trainer-and unlike you I look like one to the point where nobody would question my credentials or knowledge base just based on my appearance alone. If you had that kind of game there would be no need to brag about your book educated pseudo science bullshit. A killer body will smoke any killer resume' you show potential clients. Speaking of...

Wanna compare pics? Then we can ask the whole fucking internet who looks more qualified? Anytime bitch. Mr Pumped will be looking like Mr Chumped I assure you

And btw- tell your old lady if she doesn't bring me my money soon I'll ship her ass back to TJ and she can start doing the donkey shows for $20 again.

ya bro, im working on getting a dietetics major right now. I have about 2 years left for that , and I thought if I already had a PT certification that it would give my resume more appeal.

This response is right on the money. The most successful personal trainers are the ones that are organized, dependable, are a product of the product (meaning they are in shape), know how to get results quickly for their clients and most important by far are great salespeople. Go to 24 Hour Fitness or Bally's and all of those trainers have certifications and 99% of them are worthless pieces of shit that have no clue what they are doing. I think in any sales arena you either have it or you don't. I know many trainers that work in personal training studios that make over 100k but those are probably the same people that would make 100k+ if they were selling cars, insurance, mortgages, etc. The fact is, if you know how to build your own body you know how to build somebody elses

"Mrpumped will be looking like Mrchumped" I have to admit that is a good fucking ryme. You a part time rapper?
By the way, I'm having trouble down loading pics. Even if I wanted to we couldn't compare. So BigCracker, you still working in the feild? If so where are you working out of, your own buis, or at a gym?

Ulter said:
ACE is the most widely accepted. Most big gyms require you are certified to work there not because they believe in the certification but because their insurance requires it. I don't think you'll learn very much that you wouldn't learn just reading the boards here but it will at least open the door for you.

I was a personal trainer for 4 years and the more my physique improved, the more clients I got. I was NASM and APEX certified and the only thing I really learned from it was self myofascial release.

Just stay on Primo, EQ, and Masteron and train with a bit of intensity and you'll get all the clients you want.. :)

That's actually pretty good advice. People respect results and they just love to brag about how their pt is the shit.

Why the fuck are you getting into this for? I don't have the equipment needed to download pics. I just started my first cycle, but that doesn't have anything to do with what I look like. I know I look alot better than the picture in your avatar, and bigger and I just started my first cycle. If you don't have anything worthwhile to say, then shut the fuck up!!! I don't doubt that but your physique isn't going to make the corporation that has to satisfy the liability insurance carrier hire you. My point wasn't that ACE is any better or any worse. My point is that if you don't have a certification the big gyms couldn't care less what you look like. Since any certification will do and ACE is the easiest and cheapest (last time I looked), and ACE gets you in; it makes more sense to get that one.

Often the thing that goes hand in had with certifications is the gym also takes 50% or more of your hourly rate. I recommend finding a gym that will let you pay a monthly charge to train your clients as opposed to being a whore for the gym and giving up half of your pay. The only problem with being independent is finding clients-but if you can't do that on your own your future as a pt doesn't look too promising.

LOL. You're not fat bro-you're just big boned.

well there are alot of good posts on here I need to reply to.
big kracker, Ya I realize when it comes down to it, its gonna take someone that is already strong in the sales department. I guess like someone else said, if you strive to be successful, you will be, whether you are a PT or car salesman, and that is what i'm determined to do ultimately, be successful. Also I think my gym takes 5$ off of like 25 or 35$ an hour. I'm not sure about other "bigger" gyms because I haven't really looked into the fees of PT's at other gyms.

Ulter, thats pretty much what im wanting, just a qualified broad certification but i also want to learn the "bookwork" of personal training, not just have a certificate, because I know right now that I'm not educated enough about personal training to feel comfortable being one.

T-Matt hit on the subject about basically looking good and looking like you at least know how to lift. I still dont consider myself in good enough shape to be a PT either, I have alot of work to do. Hopefully within 2 years , by the time I get my dietetics degree, I can be in good enough shape that I feel like clients will want me to be their PT. I'm also highly motivated and determined to do this, and it is my dream career, being a dietician/personal trainer.

Thanks for all the comments. K

I was under the impression that most gyms preferred trainers to be NASM certified.

You're absolutely right now, if ACE gets you in and it's more widely accepted, that would, without a doubt, be the way to go. I wasn't doubting your point, I just so happened to respond to your thread, that comment wasn't directed at you, Ulter. :)

But yeah, the best thing you can really do is start PT and show a progressive change in your body composition and people will start asking for questions.

It is incredibly hard these days to find a gym who will allow you to be independent. They are just losing entirely too much money that way. If you can find one do it.

The fact is is that I was set on being a personal trainer/athletic trainer. Realistically I looked at the men who have been in the field for 10 years and I wasn't happy with where most of them were at, ya know? They weren't spending anytime with their families (if they even had any because most were single due to so many working hours with the athletes)

I have always wanted to open up my own wellness center to teach solid principles, to have a definite system, to franchise and really teach people the truths about fitness and educate them on steroid use. I switched to the financial industry because that is where I'm going to learn the business principles and obtain the capital to begin.

I can't work for other people.. Common sense isn't very common these days. People try to complicate business and that's where the bottom falls out and your business dies.
:)

Good Luck!

ps. I have/had two ISSA certs - I really wasn't impressed but I did get to spend a week with Tom Platz.

im graduating with a bio chem degree...i have buddies in exersise science...i would say the most important thing for a trainer to have is a prestine body and a great attitude...

One way I got my biz rolling was by training my hotbody gf for free. I also trained a few of her hot bimbo friends for $15 a session on the condition they tell anyone that asks about my service that they're paying me $40/session and I'm worth it.

Another way to make more $$$ is by offering less time per session. Notice how I refer to it as a session and not an hrly rate. My sessions are only 45 mins-which allows me to squeeze 1-2 extra clients in during the day. It made me look busy even when I wasn't. Successful trainers will have theri own little cult following over time if they're good. Eventually I replaced my cheapo paying clients w/clients that paid my full session rate. Once my schedule was full, I'd raise my rate to $50 for all new clients.

I'd also recommend selling individual diets and 2 wk/6 session start up programs that they can pay you to update for them every other month. You should also provide group rates for people that want to get trained together.

And most importantly, make it very clear that if clients don't give you 24 hrs notice yo cancel their appointment they will still be charged. Clients often take advantage of the pt/client friendship. Make it known from the begining that this is a biz and you have bills to pay so you can't cut anyone slack. It takes sensitive talents to be able to handle these situations without you clients acting all butt hurt and not wanting your services anymore. I gave away too many freebies in the past to flakes-so even my good clients that pay on time have to abide by my nazi cancelation policy.

this is probably one of the best/most useful posts ive seen you put out in a while BK :chomp: k

What's the average number of clients per week or per day that could usually be done without going overboard with working hours??? Say a normal 40hr week of work "PT wise" ???? 3, 4, 5 per day?

The hours never really mattered much to me. I'd just set aside a block of time like 4pm to 9pm M-F and try to squeeze as many clients in that time as I could-and possibly train myself or do cardio between. If I was hurting for clients, I'd open up a block of time in the early AM too like 5 Am to 9AM??? Saturdays I did noon appts til ???

The pain in the ass is seeing the same people so often in a week's time. Often you become their therapist instead of their trainer-unfortunately you're only getting your rate, not a $250 hr shrink's rate. You guys hear me talk about dysfunctional marriages/relationships a lot. Most of them I hear about are from pt clients. Woman bitch their hubby thinks they're fat. Guys bitch that their woman won't have sex with them, etc. I try to keep the topics fitness related-but when you see someone 45 mins 4x a week eventually you're gonna talk about other stuff. Like any other career-you take the good with the bad. At least you're helping people and giving back to society-which is an honorable thing no matter how you look at it or what you get paid.

LOL.. Bro, we would have an awesome time with our PT horror stories over a couple beers.. I saved a few marriages in my time--I'm still owed $25,000 in marriage couseling fees..

I had this one lady that specifically told me that she couldn't ride the exercise bike without getting creamy up in her insides. She then went on to mention that she hadn't had sex in 13 yearssssssssss... For some reason, she never looked at me the same after that.. :worried:

I think I ruined a few marriages myself. lol Nailing a pt client whose hubby pays for her sessions is completely unethical, but definitely a perk of the job if you want it to be. Personal trainer/gigolo services = same thing. However this definitely isn't the best image to project for biz long term. Ya know the rule-don't get your meat where you make your bread.

Those images give me a chubby. I had this one 16 yr old girl client that was about 95 lbs. She alkways wore spandex. A couple of her outfits were getting a litte old, so when they'd stretch you could totally see through them-especially when doing lying leg curls- At the top of every rep I could see her asshole and twat peaking at me through the stretched fabric in her shorts. Damn that shit looked sooooooooo fresh. No tongue ring tho-bummer. lol
