Aaaarrrggghh! 2 computer problems that are driving me crazy! Help please.

1. I have AIM (Instant messenger). Somehow I get hyperlinks inserted on my end THAT I DIDN'T EVEN TYPE. I don't know how this came to be, but it's almost as if it has a mind of it's own.

I uninstalled/reinstalled, ran virus check, ran spybot & it's still there

2. My homepage keeps changing from Google.com to Coolsearch.com. Any idea how to keep it at Google?

Any help is appreciated because I am about to throw the monitor out the window

You might have to manually delete it from the registry.

I believe it's called av.exe.

-First, delete it from your WINDOWS folder.
-Then run msconfig and uncheck the box that has it in it.
-Then delete every reference in the registry. Should be in the CURRENT USER-SOFTWARE-WINDOWS-RUN folder (I may be mistaken on this last one. if you aren't sure, just sun a search for it, and hit F3 until you find it)

Oh, delete the shit from your profile too. I'm sure that's common sense though.

Cool, i'd still be a little worried that spybot and adaware didn't find the homepage thing. It might be new and not in the current definitions, keep updating over the next few days.

Yeah, get the newest update for Spybot -- they added a buttload of new bad guys last time I updated. It's getting as bad as viruses -- and the virus scanners DO NOT pick up the same stuff Spybot does.

Please, don't say "oh well" and let it slide, either -- if something is dicking with your startup page, root it out. Some of those bastards (with a small "b") are doing stuff with your machine that you do NOT want your machine doing.

For anyone having the "Coolsearch.com" homepage problem (annoying as hell), here is the solution:

The download is near the bottom of the page. Gets rid of coolsearch effectively.
