a semi complicated ab question

Ok all my life Ive been tall and skinny, when I started hitting the gym hard for real I was 22 6'2 and weighed 165, now Im 23 6'2 and pushing on 190...Im still not where I want to be at size but people can see me and say hey works out, (Ive got decent genetics) now the problem is that Ive put on good size everywhere and Im decently defined since I was naturally cut up from being skinny and getting cut isnt as hard for me..on to my question...as a part of gaining size due to massive amounts of food that Is for the most part healthy (few cheats on the weekends) Ive accumulated some fat around the waist area, Ive managed to lower that fat, by lowering carbs and eating healthier, and doing lots of no weight high reps abs 3-4 times a week, but it also lowered my weight to about 185...It seems like the 190 area is a sticking point for me, its either I continue to grow weight with the rather ugly looking stomach that I never had before...or I keep it controlled at 185...

What can I do?

most people split up phases....bulking and cutting.

for example, i personally bulk during the winter because i don't give a shit if i have a little gut. Then i choose to cut starting around march in order to be leaned out by the time summer comes.

if you want to grow, focus on one thing at once. you have to bulk and not care for a few months, then lean down and let that new muscle show. its all about the diet.

hope this helped.

when you lean down? do you do cardio and abs? just abs? alot of cardio to get lean then the abs? cause theres alot of people in my gym that will tell you it will look worse if you do abs behind a not lean stomach....

thanks man thats the answer I was looking for, I had cut off the ab training now that I was bulking, tell me if you agree with me on this assumption, the abs should be treated like a muscle but should be done oppositely....as in if your bulking you should train it like your cutting and if your cutting you should train as if your bulking...this is an example....if your bulking you should train as if your cutting by doing zero to ligth weight with lots of reps (that way you can burn some of that grease off the waist area...and when ur cutting your already lean so you want those ab muscles to bulge out so you'll do heavier weight with lower reps....what do you think?

Well, if you build the abs by doing weighted exercises, and you put on some fat, it will tend to push the stomach out. It might not look that good, but when the time comes to drop the fat, you'll have a fully blown 6-pack awaiting. The heads of the muscle will be jutting out, and you'll have that rigid look on them.

I think you should train them the same as you woul your other muscles. Use weight with them. If you're happy with their size, just maintain them and use less/no weight (depending on where you were at in the first place).
