9 people dead in Santa Monica

this proves that my backyardboom plan should be in effect. once a person reaches the age of 70. you take me in the back yard and boom. take em out like a laim dog:lmao:

This is a continuing problem in society. We are extending the average lifespan but at the same time, people just weren't meant to live this long. Mark my words, if i am so mentally inept that I can plow over 50 people and not stop for 2 blocks, I will shoot myself in the fucking head. Absolutely unacceptable... my grandma (84) is sharp as a whip 4 her age.. they recently made her renew her license, but only with a written test. Low and behold she got a 100% on the test. She herself admits that she is no longer comfortable driving yet she scores a perfect written exam. It is clear that we need to enact some type of hands on dexterity/reaction time testing for the elderly.
I don't care if he was "confused" or "disoriented" People are dead and when you look at why they are dead, this man is the sole cause. He must pay the price. If any of you remember about 2 years ago at my school (ucsb) a kid went whacko and ran down one of the most crowded streets at night. He was on trial for 5 counts of murder. He actually had intent and ended up getting off w/ insanity plea, read up on it. This santa monica thing is like 10x what we had to deal with up at school.

Why aren't cops doing a better job? Instead of trying to make money for the government by just targeting speeders -- why don't they instead concentrate on locating old drivers who can't drive worth shit.

Because that would be targeting someone based on their age and the amount of shit they would get in is as yet unmeasurabe.

States have been moving towards licensing system that will allow those of us younger than Wodin to not have to have a renewal period of 4-5 years (longer in some states), whereas people Wodin's age and older would have to submit for renewal on a much more frequent basis.

I agree that people over 70-75 years of age should be forced to take the same driving test that you originally took to get your license. Written tests don't do shit. They need someone to ride in the passenger seat and evaluate their driving. And driving too slow should be a cause for revocation of the license. Slow drivers are EXTREMELY dangerous on the road as they cause everyone else to drive erractically in order to get around them.

Manahedgi said that when he went to pull the driver out, "His eyes were open and he was alive. I said, 'Do you know what the hell you did?' He said, 'No.' I just opened the door, I pulled him out."

A crowd gathered around the car and "wanted to beat him up," Manahedgi said. "I said, 'He's an old man, leave him alone.'"

Latest word is that there are 3 eyewitnesses who stated that he sped up during the incident

Tragedies like these should remind everyone that everytime you get behind the wheel, you are potentially driving a deadly weapon. :(

As for requiring the elderly to take driver's exams more frequentlly, I am all for it, but let's take it a step further. Make EVERYONE take the full exam every ten years, and make people over 65 take it, every 2-4 years.

As far as the ticketing goes, cops are WAY more reluctant to write one for an older person. They are also less likely to stop someone for "driving too slowly or cautiously". I agree with ZKaudio's dexterity/reaction time test, it could be done on a simulator.

How about an assesment test at 65, 70, and 75, followed by tests every two years therafter. The senior citizens lobby is actually pretty powerful, and will fight these ideas due to "loss of freedoms" etc. To that I say, "Do what other carless people do, ride the bus or mooch off friends/family."

I would be willing to take a test starting right now, every five years until my 75th (I'm 33) No ageism here, just common sense.

I had to make a decision with my Grandfather a few years ago to take away his drivers license and his truck. He pretty much gave up on life after losing his wheels and passed away 8 months later.

The elderly cherish two things...their homes and their vehicles.

well if that happened and someone I loved die, well then th old fogeywould not see my fist that knocked him to the gorund, and he also would miss out on my heel caving his skull in

after 75, every year people should be tested, this is ridiculous
