people only work at 20% of their potential 80% of the time?

and vice versa?

this seems to be how my day at work is going..

only for once Im doin 80% of potential and everyone else is doing 20%

usually we're all at 20%

so..Im not complaining, but...discuss

Are you talking about "work" work (the thing you collect a paycheck for) as opposed to general life? Because if so I can honestly tell you I work MUCH, MUCH harder (and more) since I've been self employed. There basically is no "fuck off" time when you're self employed. No workee, no payee.

work with a paycheck not self employed

but here is the thing...where I work we all have a vested interest in making sure the place makes money and runs smoothly and customers are happy...

so it makes me insane slightly when I KNOW these guys can bust a job out..and they just WONT

sure if you're being paid to occupy a chair doing monkey work all day. If u run your own company or are a contractor -- it's more like 80/70.

c

LOL u guys are jerks xD

I get the feeling shir, when I worked in Alienware/Dell the center ricked closing due to performance so motivation was in the ground and bitches weren't working, I took it upon myself to make a motivation contingency plan and presented it to the sups/bosses and they applied it for peeps and it actually worked, it may sound lame that I did that but I was making good money and needed to keep my job and even though I did my best they didnt so I had to get the ball rolling...

I spend 5% of my work time doing productive work & 95% of my work time spinning my accomplishments and piping sunshine up my bosses' asses

lolololol

awesome

well...I made myself insane all day but we all managed to get our shit done for the day and made everyone happy that we needed to make happy

I was seriously trying to make something work out well today because the owners are gone and I had conferred with our head mechanic on how to pull this off the day before

at the end of the day mission accomplished and we doubled our normal net today...which makes us all look good to the brass and gets them off our ass more often

AND earlier, I was posting on my lunch break that I couldn't actually leave the office for...so..BITE ME..lol..and if I didn't stop with other shops, phones, parts, quotes etc etc etc for like 30 minutes...I was going to implode

20% of peeps do 80% of the work.

i like this one and it seems to be a constant:

20% of peeps are highly productive and self managed. ( super stars )

60% of peeps are mostly productive and need some management. ( average joe )

20% of peeps are not very productive and are high maintenance. ( slackers )

applies to classrooms, workplace etc....

Guess what that's called, a bell curve.

yep, and it's da truth.

it's an integral part of our managment training. from a management / leadership
perspective, you can only weed out the slackers. you can encourage the average
joes to do their best, but much is dependent on personality characteristics.
super stars will always be super stars. this may be an oversimplification, but
in the final analysis it always shows up like this.

if you apply maslows hierarchy to management and you provide all necessary tools
to do the job, a natural delineation occurs and you can see it clear as day.

i really saw it throughout college. A few hard charging go-getter types in each class, followed by the sea of averageness, followed by a few complete idiot slackers that barely passed or dropped after 2 weeks.
Really nothing new.

now see, for college..I never looked like I was doing crap but my stuff was always perfect and had to be done last minute (this is how I roll)

"Ohhh look at me, I dont have to plan for shit, I just whip it all together the night before and its perfect. Straight A's teehee!"

lololol...

I'd always think about it, but like I gotta roll something around in my head for a while..

but in typical procrastinator style can't seem to do it until its like due NOW

I'm really bummed I can't go to school this semester and my spring and summer semesters got all cocked up :(

I believe 80/20 rule is supposed to guide you on what to focus on, not how hard you work.

In other words, 20% of the items will cover 80% of the issue / work. Focus on those 20% and you will do well.
