Whats up everyone! This whole site and Forum is all new to me the the health and fitness area is not. What I am posting about is, I can not gain any weight and I am really smalled boned. My wrists are smaller than the average girl's and no matter how much I workout I can not gain any muscle. I have tried all the diet tricks, high protein, supplement drinks, everything. I am 23 years old and I want to make my body look better by working out in the gym but it does not work. I normally work out 4-5 days a week, lifting each body part on different days, seperated by cardio. I get plenty of rest and have a geat diet. If anyone could help me out with what I should do to bulk up, because the gym is not working for my body structure. Thanks guys/gals!

Anyone can gain weight bro! Diet is 80+% of your success. What does your diet look like ? avarage cals per day ?

I know I can gain the Bad weight. I am eating like 200g protein and 3000-3500 cal a day. I can easily put on fat but in the gym when I am training, and it is a good workout routine, i can not gain muscle at all. I get stronger in my lifts but there are no results that you can see. I have been lifting for the past two years very hard and focused. I dont know if it has something to do with being very small boned.

Don’t worry,

Your young and will be able to add muscle for the next 50 years, you are one in a million,

Millions of people pay billions of dollars to try and get what you have given to you by God.

How long have you been training?

Where do you live?

What is your ethnic background?

I ask because I am Swedish and my wife is Chinese, we have very, very different tolerances to food. If I look at some of the food she eats I gain weight, and she would not touch much of what I eat.

Bro - your bones don;t have anything to do w/ it. LIsten to what Mustag above is saying (as he is one of the most knowledgeable bros here). DIet is 80% and NO ONE can grow w/ 3500 cals a day. You need to determine what your maintinance cals are - they could be 6000 a day - maybe 8000 - who knows. For me it is around 4500. Also - you can;t put on muscle w/out putting on fat. You can eat clean and try to prevent it, but ultimatly if you want to grow you need to focus on that. Fat is easily lost.

IMO that amount is to low if your trying to put on LBM. If we had a example of your daily diet we could have a better look at it and see what your doing right and also what your doing wrong. When it comes to my own diet, it's not really the total cals that matters to me, it matters more where those cals are coming from. Do you eat "clean" ?

Your diet definitely needs to be addressed, but HOW do you train? (Because I think that's important, too). If your lifts are all continuing to go up, you should be growing, IMO. Maybe you're being a bit too "conservative" and need to really up your poundages...

Who do you train with? If what you've been doing is not working, do something different. Find a new group of lifters to train with and motivate you.

If I was 6'7" (Holy SHIT!!) and 190 (WOW), I would eat every hour. As high calorie as you can stand upon waking until you go to sleep. And Maybe go train with a powerlifting club. Start slowly, though, and gradually increase calories....Unless you compete in some sport, I would definitely keep cardio to a minimum.

I am the same body type as you and I thought is was impossible to grow... I was 5'9 at 151 a couple years ago until I found out that when you think you are eating enough you aren't. I managed to put on over 30lbs since then with only 2% bodyfat increase which I actually like by the way.

I was intaking about 3400 cal a day and thought I was training properly, but little did I realize that I was training for maintainance and not for mass.

In order to grow you must eat big and lift heavy.... At your current size you should be intaking at least 4500 cals to start.... that's: 300g of Protein, 60g of fat and 700g carbs .... Yes you will gain some fat, but being that you are an ectomorph (more than likely) your body will control the fat better than the other body types. If you haven't gained a pound in 7 days add another 500 cals and keep adding until you see that weight scale change or if you go more than 2 weeks withou gaining a pound, add 500 cals until you find the cal count that makes you grow.

You must get pass that I don't want fat mind set because if you think that way then you will eat that way!! Every bodybuilder, muscle fitness model or who ever, puts on fat during the off season!!

Now your training should be around 10,8,6,4(in terms of repetitions per set) sometimes even take it as low as 8,6,4,2 and then change it again to 15,12,10,8 ..... Plenty of rest and lots of water!!

Do you guys think it would be a good idea to think about using steriods or starting to research about them. I know the general ideas behind them like anyother human, but not all the info that i need to know. Would it be a good idea?

This is all great advice. My 2 cents is to load up on calories 30 mins before your workout, then load up again right after, THEN SLEEP FOR LIKE AN HOUR, then wake up and eat again. I had success with this...loading calories right around your workouts, sleeping right after, and eating clean the rest of the day.

Good luck.
