This is a little off topic and I'm sure we've heard these stories before. But, this one was the very best. I had a buddy over one night and we stepped over to the apartment space I was renting to this young couple and the girl- once hearing that we were on our way to a bodybuilding contest- starts telling us how she benched 500 lbs in high school. "My coach was amazed!" She was about 5'6" and 115 lbs. and hadn't trained before or since this amazing lift. I groaned, looked at my buddy and seriously considered flopping around on the floor shouting abour miracles of God, but chose to just kinda chuckle a little bit. "Well, maybe it was 200." She finally admitted to after we gave her the silent treatment. Yep, keep dreaming. If you got 150 I'd crap myself.
And, why is it always 500 lbs. I don't know how many fat, shapeless lazy bastards I've heard talk about how they bench 500- raw of course, they don't even know what a bench shirt is. Do they really think that no-one will know that they are totally pulling a number out of their ass?
Another one was two friends of mine talking about how they lifted for one summer while I was away. Or, at least that's what one friend said. "Oh yeah, how did it go?" I asked. "Well, I wasn't real strong, we were only benching about 350 for reps." He replied. I suppressed a chuckle and ventured over to my other buddy, and former training partner. "Uh, we trained for one sunday afternoon and struggled with 185 lbs." He told me. Yep, these were friends I'd known since jr. high, 350 lb. benchers they weren't.
Just rambling here, feel free to move this if needed.
