1st Figure Comp and only 1 month away need tips!!

Hi everyone,

I am new here. So I've been "googling" for tips and been reading as much info on this comp as I possibly can.

I will be entering my first figure comp in May 2009. I'm only 1 month away. I would like to get as many helpful tips as I possibly can for this competition.

I'm 5'0 110lbs 40 yrs old ... As far as bodyfat goes I used the 7 fold caliper measurements and it has me at around 11% bf.

Here were my exact measurements:

triceps: 7.5
Subscap: 5.8
midax: 5.5
umbilicus: 9.0
supiliac: 4.0
chest: 4.2
thigh: 10.5

I'm a little worried about my abs and thigh measurements since they are in the double digits. But I was wondering what is ideal measurements for women competing in the Figure competition? I can't find anything about this anywhere.

I also would like to know if judges really pay any attention to the glutes. Do they prefer glutes w/ creases or not? I have creases and am worried about that as well.

Supplements that I am taking are:
protein, creatine, multi vitamin, DIM, glutamine, arginine, and methoxybolic by APex which has querectin, tribulus and avena sativa extract.

Foods I eat are:

oatmeal, protein shakes, chicken, broccoli, veggie salads, homemade peanutbutter protein bars w/ no sugar (peanutbutter, oats, flaxseed meal, protein powder, extra light virgin olive oil, egg whites)

Here is a picture of me from about 2 weeks ago. Please give me feedback at where I should be at, how I look. am I even close to where I should be, etc..

I teach 4 spinning classes a week, lift weights 5-6 days a week 2 days are an hour lifting the rest are just using very heavy weights for 20-30 min.

My husband did his first bodybuilding competition last year and got 1st place. So I'm following in his footsteps but w/ smaller portions but I tend to cheat more than he did!!

Hi and welcome!

Is not really about measurements because we all have a different structure, but is about your symmetry and hoe lean you are. Not as leas as a bodybuilder though. Is good you posted a picture so we can have an idea of what you look like.
You have a great 'figure' and really nice legs. You need to get leaner and keep practicing those poses and quarter turns.

Your meal plan looks pretty good although how much of it you're eating. I don't know. That said, you should cut out the peanut butter and protein bars.

You also should add carbs such as sweet potato, brown rice, quinoa, couscous, etc.

If your contest is a month away, start drinking 1 gallon of water and 1.5g the week before contest (peak week)

Drink lots of tea and get rid of ANY processed foods.

Remember, this is your first contest and it will be a learning experience. As you go, you'll learn more and more.

Yes I do eat sweet potatoes. I forgot that one. Thanks for replying back.

I'm posting another picture just to see what you all think about how much leaner I should get since I have 28 or so days left till competition.

Hey there and welcome! May I just say that you look great in your pictures! There are a lot of people here who have experience with this kind of thing, and slat, one of the mentors, actually has experience with judging. I hooked you up with a week of free plat so you can search the archives.

Welcome to elite. We have a man here by the name of slat1 he is a judge for shows like this. He will come around and give you some incite to what he would look for as a judge.

i cant tell from your pics cause theyre too small (non-plat here)... but my advice for contest prep is:

-practice posing. do you have a posing coach? get Cathy Savage or Tanji Johnsons DVD.
-practice walking in your competition shoes on wood floors (Ive seen tons of girls almost fall on their face)
-dont focus on measurements. focus on symmetry. abs should be lean, but not cut like a bodybuilders.

good luck & have fun :)

I sent you a PM.
I agree about watching Cathy or Tanji's DVD's for posing. I judge a lot of Cathy's girls and she does an amazing job with them.
Tanji was a guest poser at one of the shows I judge and she knows her stuff too.
Keep posing more and more as the show approaches. You don't want to shake like crazy up there. It happens to people and happens a lot.
Great point about walking in the shoes. You would be amazed how many poor ladies don't practice in them and then look like a new born deer shaking and walking like it was their first steps.
As I mentioned in the PM just look your best. Anything can happen up there and you will be judged against the figures that are on stage. That means the blend is different at every show. The Judges could be different too. So when you are home after the show you want to be able to look in the mirror and know you look the best you have looked. In the end that is all that matters. Who wants first place if you don't like the way you look!

Kick ass and tell us how it goes. Your journey will be interesting for all the other members. Motivating too.
Best of luck! :)
