During May/June of '87 I was living in Maryland and experienced the 17 year Cicada swarm. You had to drive with lights and wipers on all the time because of the nasty goo they left on the windshield. It was like a constant rain.
I'm moving back to that area this summer so hopefully my kids will get to see the swarm of 2004.
I wonder how the cicadas kill time during that 17 years in between. I bet they do a lot of reading. I know I would. Maybe even do the cross word puzzles in the Cicada Newspaper.
Yep, they're all over the place by the Ohio River near Owensboro. Woods around the area were/are going crazy. It sounded like thousands of tree frogs in a small area at first. The noise is deafening. Pretty cool actually since I'm just used to the late summer variety. Those are a lot bigger and sound a little deeper.
